We didn't get a copy of Resonance of Fate from Sega until the last minute. We rely on advance copies sent to us in plenty of time, particularly in the case of long and involved RPGs, because they take a lot of time to play. Some publishers and developer are very prompt and helpful with early copies; Square, for example, sent us Final Fantasy XIII in plenty of time. Others aren't so quick. (Last year, we didn't get Valkyria Chronicles from Sega in advance, either, which is why that review was later than we would have liked.) This is a 50+ hour game, and we do not rush our reviews. We are not one of those publications that will review a 70-hour game after 20 hours of play. I expect you will see a review early this coming week, as Tom had put close to 60 hours into it by this last Friday. (Last I saw, he was pelting needy children with Christmas gifts while wearing reindeer suits. This is a wacky game.)
Bear in mind we have a full-time reviews staff of four people, supplemented by freelancers and some helpful staffers from other departments. (Hooray for Lark Anderson!) When you don't see a review up when you'd like to see one, it isn't because we like it that way. Usually it is because we didn't get a copy of the game or got it late. And commonly, a publisher will send only one version of a multiplatform game, usually the Xbox 360 version, which is why you often see a review of one version posted earlier, and other versions posted later. Scheduling difficulties can occasionally crop up. For example, the staffers most qualified to review the game may be on another project, or someone might be sick, or the game might arrive in the middle of a trade show. Again, that is why we rely so heavily on getting those early copies.
May and June are big months, and E3 comes in June as well. We have our fingers crossed that in those months we'll get the games we need nice and early so we can get you timely reviews of them!
How ironic. I too was looking for that game's review. I'm surprised they haven't gotten to it yet. Strangely, although there seems to be mixed feelings about the game, a majority of board users describe the battle system as a "lot of fun" and "one of the best ever". That was enough for me to pick it up two days ago (but I haven't gotten to playing it yet).
I wonder if it's becoming like movie screenings, in that you can often tell if a movie is a stinker if they make it difficult for the press to review prior to opening. .albatrossdrums
In this case it looks more like a poor effort by Sega. Since the game appears to be well made, but it looks like a game that would be difficult to market properly. The latest episode of the podcast active time babble had some nice commentary on the game.

I, too, feel that Sega dropped the ball. Reviews for the game are coming out slowly, and people have difficulty finding the game.
I own a copy of RoF, and I like the game quite a bit. Once you get over the combat system's learning curve, battles become very fun.
Sega really screwed up with this game in my mind. They released it too close to heavy hitters such as FF13 and GOW3 and then they don't even send copies to review sites on time. It's a real shame because it seems RoF is actually a good game, but one that will be lost in the shuffle. This could end up being Valkyria
Chronicles 2.0: poor sales (at least initially) for a hidden gem.
QFT! Seriously, I agree totally with that post. I did pick it up amidst FF XIII and GoW III but haven't even had a chance to play it yet.Sega really screwed up with this game in my mind. You mean you haven't bought it yet! Tsk tsk tsk :P
It's well worth 20 bucks, so enjoy! I hope RoF can come close to matching the gameplay success of VC.

I don't have much time for RPGs so I wait for their price to drop before I pick them up...Since it's very likely I'll never get to play them :(Please Log In to post.
