I have a gaming confession: I've never beaten a REAL final fantasy game. I got introduced to the series by kingdom hearts, and I played crisis core a year ago. Now I'm playing final fantasy vii on my psp thanks to the psn download. Any suggestions of final fantasies I should play? I have xii but haven't touched it. A friend told me VI is great, and others told me IV is awesome too. Another one told me VIII is the best, but I can't find it. So, which ones do you guys recommend?

A lot of people haven't beaten or even played a Final Fantasy game. To be honest, it really depends on what you like more, the newer FF or the older FF. There's a lot of debate over this.

I suggest I, II (I and II are my personal favorites, not everyone will enjoy them), IV, VI, VII, IX and X.

VIII and XII are a love it or hate it thing to be honest.

I don't recommend either III or V. The former mainly because the DS remake isn't that great.

Yeah, I'm playing VII right now. As for III, a friend has it and he enjoyed it but he didn't love it, and he's not much of a gamer. A friend has 1 and 2 advance and he might lend it. As for 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 I can find them used at gamestop or amazon, although it's tough because shipping is expensive for me (I live in mexico) And, another one has FFX, he might sell it.

So, after VII, which one do you guys recommend the most?

Cool, a fellow mexican, anyway, my fav. is VIII, it was my second FF (after FVII) and i like it more, i feel it better in almost every aspect (graphics, story, etc) i couldnt' play IX, i also have played IV and VI, they are both great, very similar in my opinion in some aspects and they are really different in others, but VI has the better story. For me it would be like this:

FFVIII > FFVI > FFVII > FFIV

after ff 7 go straight to ff x. those two were the best in the series imo. then if you want more play ff ix after that play ff xii. lastly play ff 8 (i put it last cause the drawing system might put you off!!! but the story is awesome)

All of them if you can. 10 is a good game with a good story, I would definitely recommend that you play that.

9 and 10 easy. 9 is a prime example of everything final fantasy good story your usual battle system and summonings etc and as for 10 hands down best story 12 is my least favourite and although i personally bum 8 I know it can be some what debatable as it is a lot more serious and the draw system is not for everyone as for pre 7 titles not played em

I and II Silvur? Really?

Those arent the games you want to play if youre new to the series. They're REALLY old school and you'll get frustrated playing them unless you have alot of experience.

If youre ok with pixel style graphics than I'd go with FFIV and FFVI. If youre into 3D and more cinematics go with VIII, X, and XII. VII is good too but its a BIT over rated, IMO.

If you have sixty-dollars on the counter, go buy "Final Fantasy VII" for the Playstation One off of Ebay or something. It's the best in seris, if you want a good portable one, play "Final Fantasy IV" for Gameboy Advance or "Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII" for PSP.

Quite true. But still. Those games may not be difficult gameplay wise, they're the most difficult exploration wise. It literally does not tell you where to go! I had to use a guide for both games :P

You should start off with the first ones on the NES and SNES such as I, IV, V, and VI. If you have a GBA then you can play the all of the 2d ones except for III which can be found on the DS. Then play VII, VIII, IX, X and XII. I will say that VIII and XII are hit or miss so if you really want to play all of them then you can buy them.

I found them terrible though the DS ones are okay. Avoid the GC version.

in my opinion you MUST play VII, VIII and IX (this is my favorite) V and VI are great also
but the snes graphics maybe get annoying at this time...but it's my opinion, too many people
love X and XII, and i hate them, XII it's cool, but gets boring... too slow, like walk in wet cement

I concur. FFIX is probably the best PS1 RPG on the market. Yes, I think it's better than 7. Yes, I think it's better than Chrono Cross. And for those of you that prefer FFVIII, I respect your decision, but I could only make myself play through it once. Any game that gives you the tools to trivialize every boss encounter in the game just isn't that appealing to me.

100% agree with both of you. I love Final Fantasy IX and think it's the best in the series along with VI.

Sorta off topic but, I just got a PSP this week and was thinking about downloading VII, is it good? I have never played a FF game before but heard it was good.

I would play IV and VI after that. You might want to try X or XII after that. I would save IX for your last one because it's the best FF(well in my opinion that is), and it's always good to end on a good note ;).

since youre playing 7, I suggest playing 4,6,8,9,10, those are the ones I like

1,2 were very basic but still good, 5 has a great job system, but the story is kinda thin.

12 is my least favourite, I didnt like it too much, but there are lots of people who disagree with me so maybe you can check it out as well

and avoid 10-2........ unless you like charlie's angels :)

VII, VIII, X (do not play X-2) and XII.

Final fantasy X is pretty easy to beat. FFXII is MASSIVE!
