Currently playing SMT: Nocturne. I had it sitting around for years and started it up a couple times but never saw it through. Persona 4 inspired me to finally get around to finishing it. It takes a while to hit its stride but I am liking it so far.

Well, I couldn't help myself, couldn't stay away from this game, besides if I'd quit now that'd just be one more game on my backlog list, and I don't want that. I'm now playing Ultimate Racer on Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2). So far I've unlocked events 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14. Gotta love those cops, playing with them is such fun, but its even better to pretend to help them by blocking one of my opponents so that they get caught.

Unlocked events 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, and 21 in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2). But holy crap that was tough, event 10 they started sending in the helicopter, blasted the hell out of my car with explosive barrels, unrealistic, no way would they ever use stuff like this, especially around innocents, but makes for an intense, exciting race. Event 13 was a pain in the ass, took me over a half a dozen tries, boy do I hate being the cops, just not any fun chasing other cars, unlike being the illegal street racer on the run, now that's fun.

Decided to take a short break from Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 and reconnected my NES to play some Castlevania. I had a purpose other than just flat out beating it, done that too many times, this time I wanted to beat it without using any of the sub-weapons (dagger, axe, boomerang, holy water, or stopwatch). I beat it twice, using the whip only, if a sub-weapon happened to land in my hands I just ignored it. If I happened to accidently grab an invisibility potion I just stood where I was until it wore off, if a cross, well, nothing I can do about that, but I avoided this stuff the best I could. I had also planned to get through without getting any wallmeat but forgot during the heat of battle and chowed down when I needed some. I also had attempted to record my game plays using my webcam, and I did, but they didn't come out good, but I did note the time that I had each death.

The stages overall were easy, never felt I was in too much danger of losing any lives, even in stage 4 with all the water, fishmen and bats, I usually lose some lives here, but not at all this time. Only real challenges were against 3 of the bosses, Frankenstein & Igor, Grim Reaper, and Dracula. The first game I struggled with Death, and here before this I thought I'd have more trouble beating Franky and Igor, but did surprisingly well against them, but I ended up using a continue to the Grim Reaper, something I didn't want to do, but hey, you gotta start out bad before you can get good. Second game, the usual 2 bosses gave me a little bit of trouble, but not too much. When I had killed myself (err Simon) is because I only had 1 hit left, no way was I going to beat Drac using just my morning star whip and only 1 hit point, so I jumped, saved myself the trouble and time of losing. Anyway, here's my results:

Castlevania
01/07/09
10th game: Beat Castlevania without using sub-weapons, had 9 deaths, 1 continue used
15:28 - 1st death by the Grim Reaper
16:50 - 2nd death by the Grim Reaper
18:22 - 3rd death by the Grim Reaper
19:58 - 4th death by the Grim Reaper
22:04 - 5th death by the Grim Reaper
24:05 - 6th death by the Grim Reaper (continue)
27:50 - 7th death by the Grim Reaper
32:55 - 8th death by Dracula's 2nd form
35:09 - 9th death by Dracula's 2nd form
01/07/09
11th game: Beat Castlevania without using sub-weapons, had 4 deaths, score 160420
10:46 - 1st death by Frankenstein
15:38 - 2nd death by the Grim Reaper
17:19 - 3rd death by the Grim Reaper
20:32 - 4th death by suicide off Drac's Clock Tower

Oh, by me saying 10th game, or 11th game, this refers to how many times I've beaten the game since keeping detailed logs on my game accomplishments, starting from August 12th, 2002, though I've beaten Castlevania far more times than 11 if counting the many times I'd done so prior to that date.

I'm currently playing the Jak and Daxter series (for PS2). Hope this will help me (along with the current-gen games I play) to wait for the series' PS3 installment.

Unlocked events 28 and 29 in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2).

One thing that I notice that annoys me sometimes is that sometimes when one of my opponents zooms by a cop well over the speed limit, the cop doesn't always give chase, sometimes even waiting for several cars to go by at top speed with no desire to chase them, instead waits specifically for me to go by, forcing me to either go really slow or continue at full speed and let them come after me, damn cheap computer, I think those police got bribed by everyone but me.

Unrelated to that, which had disappointed me the further I got in it, there's something that this game lacks which could've made for more interesting and varied tracks, aside from subtle haze and mini-sandstorms in the desert stages, there's no other weather effects, no rain, no snow, no slippery icy roads (the closest they got are slippery leaves in the autumn mountain coarses, which is fine, but this is limited to just those tracks and typically its only shortcuts that have the road littered with them), just ordinary driving conditions. Can't remember driving at night either, but there are a few points where the sun makes driving blindingly difficult for brief moments on some tracks.

When I'd first played this game some years ago, I thought, best racing game ever, but now, while still an awesome racer, one of the absolute best, I still think I like Need for Speed: High Stakes on the PS better. I think one of the problem Hot Pursuit 2 suffers is that its way too long, and being that there really aren't that many tracks, you end up racing on the same ones over and over again, they just mix 'em up a bit, change up the number of laps, number of opponent cars, add traffic, cops and other minor differences in the challenges. And the scenery doesn't change too much, you have a forest setting, desert canyons, mediterranean coastline, autumn mountain road, and a tropical island, each having 3 slightly altered maps, and while each coarse is visually pleasing, and fun to race on, it still leaves much to be desired.

Well, took a glipse of what the next two events, 28 and 29, are going to consist of, 8 races, 3 laps each, it's going to take a while to beat them.

01/08/09
16th game: Beat Castlevania without using sub-weapons or wall-meat with 6 deaths / no continues used, score 195680
1st death by the Grim Reaper
2nd death by the Grim Reaper
3rd death by the Grim Reaper
4th death by the Grim Reaper
5th death by the Grim Reaper
6th death by Dracula's 2nd form

The first dangerous spot in the game for me are the crushing devices in the 2nd stage, I hate going through that part of the stage, always fearful that my timing will be off, and instant death, but haven't gotten killed by them yet, so that's good, but I have had it happen before. The entire first section of stage 4, the underground lake, usually I'd die here at least once in the past, well not this time, never lost a life in this area during my no sub-weapon playthrus, just gotta keep moving, no hesitation. Actually, never lost a single life at all until I at least get to Franky & Igor, sometimes I lost against them, but they have become easier. But the mother of all challenges is beating the Grim Reaper with just the whip, sometimes I can do it rather easily, and then other times I fail terribly, but many of the battles against him I can at least last a while, nearly beating him every time, dodging, jumping, ducking and whipping his sickles, and attacking him when I have an opening, all the while trying to keep my nerves in check, lest I mess up, he's a tough one, but rather fun to take on, kinda like the Mike Tyson of Castlevania. Probably the most irritating foe in this game to me are the giant bats that hover around the clock tower bridge, most of the time you can just keep on moving, they don't usually react to swoop down on you right away, so you can make it to the next section usually without taking any damage. But, every so often they switch up their attack patterns, attacking me right after I passed by them and am making a jump to the next platform, which results in me getting knocked down to my doom. F'in can't stand those big bats, would like to take a bat to them. Dracula usually only kills me if I get to him without enough health, beating his 2nd form using only the whip kinda requires you to have full health to survive, or some luck. I still need to improve, try to get through losing less lives, particularly on the Grim Reaper.

Castlevania is still in my NES. Yesterday, early morning, over 6 hours straight (from 2am something to 8am something), probably around 30 tries, I attempted to beat it, but this time no only just not using the subweapons, but not collecting any subweapons at all (really difficult to do with them wanting to give you so many all the time), also no meat, but I also gave myself a 3 death limit, any more than that and I reset the game, and if I accidentally picked up a subweapon I reset the game. On my Last try, when I was about to call it quits due to fatigue, I did it as I wanted to, beat Castlevania without picking up any subweapons, or wallmeat, also I don't think I grabbed a single invisibility potion or cross either, but I'll have to rewatch the playback that I tape to reconfirm this, and I had only 2 deaths, the mandatory 1st death against the Grim Reaper, and the 2nd death against Dracula due to not having enough health to start with to outlast his 2nd form.

Oh, also got some new PS2 games to my collection. Gun ($8.99), Maximo: Ghosts to Glory ($2.99), Primal ($2.99), Resident Evil: Code Veronica X ($7.99), and Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness ($4.99).So I tried each of those out. I started with TR: Angel of Darkness, had rented this one some years ago, had difficulty playing it due to the controls, was really frustrated and disappointed being as how much I love Tomb Raider on the PS, but I took my chances, barganing that there's a chance that if I gave it enough of a chance to learn the controls that this could be a really enjoyable game. I took my time, and while still a little awkward I am moving Lara around better than when I had years ago, andI passed 3 stages - Parisian Back Streets, Derelict Apartment Block, and Industrial Rooftops , and hey, not bad, that wasn't so difficult. From what I played of it, I'm glad I gave it another chance, seems that I am going to enjoy this one afterall. After that I tried out Gun, I played it before several years ago when my sister's husband had it for his X-Box, or his PS2, I forget which, and got quite far into it, had trouble putting it down, found it very enjoyable and it had an excitingly different scenery, a western theme, so remembering how much I liked this game from my first impressions of first playing it, I had to have it. Anyway I played 3 stages of this, The Hunt, Steamboat Massacre, and Honest Tom. After that Maximo, this one I got just because it was supposedly a good game, a 3D platformer similar to Ghost 'n Goblins, so seeing the small price tag, I figured what the hell, I'll give it a try. I haven't played this one much, didn't even clear the first stage, but it seems like it'll be fun. RE: Code Veronica X was next, played rather far into this game many years ago, loved it as I had with any of the PS Resident Evil games, had to get it. Was having trouble getting this game though, either the game would be all scratched up, or the booklet was missing, and this time, no demo disc, and I'm actually kinda pissed at myself for settling, I've been wanting this game for a while, but I told myself when it comes to PS and PS2 games that I'd only get them if they're complete, but I got this one anyway despite missing the demo disc for Devil May Cry. I really don't care about DMC, so the demo disc is actually pointless for me to care about not having, its just the fact that the game package is incomplete, but I love RE: CVX, so I'll try not to think about the unimportant and focus on enjoying what I got this game for, this game. After that I put in Primal, years ago I bought it for my brother along with RE: Code Veronica X, and was really into this one, it was very enthralling, one of my favorites at the time, I made it to the second world then, but last night I just got the game started.

Been playing Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness (PS2), so far I'm on an Archaeological Dig. There was a point in the game that it felt kinda slow, most of the Parisian Ghetto, too much aimless wandering and talking to people, but it picked up after that, got back to what I like, what I expect from the Tomb Raider games. Good so far, not anywhere on par with the PS1 Tomb Raider games, but still enjoyable, but then I'm probably no where near finished, so it still has plenty of time to improve a lot more.

I managed to get in a little bit of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2), passed event 28 on the Ultimate Racer, boy was that a long, grueling event, 8 races, 3 laps each, using the McLaren F1 and Mercedes CLK. Looks like event 29, when I get to that, is going to be the same thing as event 28.

Well, finally done with Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. I finished both the World Racing Championship, and now the Ultimate Racer. Odd how for event 32 you only have to do it on the Ultimate Racer, after having beaten that final event there, I checked it out on the World Racing Championship and it was already cleared there too. I really loved this game when I first started it, but am now totally relieved that its finished, the game was way too long, got monotonous after a while, same tracks over and over again, nothing new, and those bonus events, 31 & 32 weren't anything different, just a pathetic attempt at artificially making the game longer than it should've been. Now, after having played it all so damn much, I'm not sure if I'll ever want to play it again, aside from not unlocking every car--I got 39/49 cars--there isn't anything else, and I can't see getting those extra cars affecting much, other than to say I got them, I don't know how to get them and don't care, too many cars anyway. Oh, and the ending was crap, but then, what do I expect from a racing game, some major deep ending?

Gotten quite far into Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness (PS2) yesterday. I''ve last left off on "The Strahov Fortress" stage. Had some really good old Tomb Raider tomb-like stages before this, Tomb of Ancients, and The Hall of Seasons, this later one branching off into 4 other sections with some really hard, but cool elemental challenges: The Breath of Hades (wind blowing over a chasm, Lara having to hop along the tops of these very tall unsteady pillars--kinda reminds me of a part from the movie "The Golden Child"), The Sanctuary of Fire (lava and flames, and sinking platforms, this one was tough either to avoid falling in or catching on fire), Wrath of the Beast (earthquakes and collapsing ledges over a bottomless void, plus after I got the treasure here I had to deal with 3 skeleton warriors before exiting), and Neptune's Hall (lots of water, lots of swimming), and once you complete the elemental challenges you still have to finish up The Hall of Seasons in which later as you make your escape it becomes completely flooded, as well as the Tomb of Ancients. After that I went back to the museum, and it was under attack, had to find a gas mask quickly. Then I had to deal with an assassin in Von Croy's apartment, pretty intense. I knew this game would get better, very interesting and exciting stages lately.

Yesterday I beat Batman without dying (1st time ever), usually I have 1 or 2 deaths (sometimes once by Firebug, but always at least one death against the Joker), but not this time, though on the Joker I came very near close to losing a life.

I tried a new strategy on the Joker, I've always used Batman's punches when fighting him (works well, but I tended to crash into him sometimes accidentally), but not this time. I chose to try out using the Batterang (great multi-hitter), this allowed me to stay within close enough range so as to avoid his gun shots, but also far enough away as to not have to sidestep the lightning as I always had to do when punching him, it proved quite effective once put into action.

Was playing Kung Fu for a couple hours earlier tonight, trying to beat an old record from several years ago, and did it. Recorded it on vhs tape, then paused it as I lost my last life, and took a picture.

Just finished up new game plus on Persona 4, so picked up some games I meant to play but never got around too.

Radiata Stories: Yeah.....having a hard time getting into this one. I don't mind anime type games, but there is such a thing as over the top and this one certainly qualifies. The gameplay I'm not finding all that compelling either.

Disgaea: Been a while since I have played a S-RPG....and it shows. Having a lot of fun with this one so far(only about 12 hours in), just having my butt handed to me a lot. Good game, and yes the prinnies rule :P
