I have had both but I have had the slim longer, they are about the same you can attach a hard drive to the old one but you will have a hard time finding the equipment.

the slim works great I prefer it, but it all depends on how much you want to spend. I would suggest you buy a new slim model that way you have the piece of mind it will last for awhile.

but if $130 bucks is more then you are willing to spend then it wont hurt for you to buy the fat model since it is cheaper.

I'd say go for the slim. I have a fat and its lasted me like 6 years so I guess a slim with its upgrades would be nice.

Unless you really need the hard drive, you might be better off going with the slim version.

But it doesn't really matter that much. They're the same system. :)

Get the Slim 2 (The lego Batman one) it is the newest version a tad smaller than the slimline released in 2004, and it has a better PSX and DVD driver

I have the slim, but I always thought the fatty was cooler.

Fatty has hard drive support and a front loading drive, which I think is nice. However, the slim has a built in modem, and it's really easy to mod. I guess it all comes down to preference.

PS2 slim version is better than earlier PS2 version because the slim version enables you can play PS2 games which supports dual layer DVD but this slim version does not include an internal cooler so you need to buy the USB cooler for PS2 in shops where they sales accessories for game consoles.

What? :?

Both versions play dual layer DVDs. And whoever told you that the PS2 slim needs an external cooler was lying. It sounds to me like you got suckered by the sales clerk at the video game store.

I have both. The fatty is dead inside my closet collecting dust. The slim is hooked up and does wonders compared to the fat one. A lot of the fat ones have disc read error problems, which pretty much makes many games unplayable after time. Theres temporary fixes for it, but it only gets you so far before it just dies. Get the slim PS2 if anything.

i've heard some bad things about the slim. I've had two buddies who've had it die on them without any misuse. The phat on the other hand, is a freaking warhorse, for me anyway.

The only way I'd recommend going would be with a slim model. Phat ps2's are always used thus the chances of them breaking down on you are much higher now. Also certain DVDs don't work in phat models, I found that out when I bought a used phat and tried to watch one of my seasons of Star Trek. The slims are more portable, take up much less space, and are quieter to boot. Finally I wouldn't worry about missing out on the ps2 hard drive as only a few games made use of it and most of those were online games that are better enjoyed on a pc.

My ps2 slim also can play hard copy of ps2 games that had been copied using CloneCD software. Now you won't worry about disc sratches on your ps2 dics if you are copy disc earlier before your disc gonna scratch up! Support DVD+/-R/RW and dual-layer DVD disc EXCEPT DVD-RAM. If you want to copy your ps2 game, go get CloneCD software in the website :www.slysoft.com. and you can get a trial version of this software.

Well ive got a phat ps2 thats a launch model & its been hammered with hours & hours of use & its had not 1 single problem. Its a true beast that just keeps going & going. Also the phat can have a hard drive plus if you can find it theres even a linux os that Sony released for it. So i say go phat.

Just go with slim. Unless you plan on Playing Final Fantasy XI theres really no point in getting a fat PS2. Im pretty sure all the other online compatible PS2 games either are devoid of activity or have their servers down.

Which do I like better? My fat PS2 still works.... I have nothing to compare it with. But if this list is still valid.... then the fat is better. No Lunar 2?
