I really want to get one of these three systems but im not sure which one... my cousin had NES growing up and thats all i really played, so i havent really played SNES or N64 much. I'm basically looking for the most reliable one, but also whatever would be cheaper... I dont want to spend more than $50 on the system/controllers/games. Which one do you think is the best? Also where would be the best place to look for good deals? I've checked Amazon and Craigslist and haven't really found too much. Alot of people are asking for like $75... how much could i realistically expect to pay for one of those three systems with at least one controller (preferably 2 though) and like 5+ games?

Since the 16-bit era games seem to have aged the best, I'd go with the SNES. I just got one the other day (first one I've ever owned, which is surprising if you know me) and I'm extremely satisfied.

The NES would be a great choice, but I find the SNES to be even greater. The N64 was disapointing to me, so I won't recommend it.

NES and N64 both have some hardware issues, so I would suggest the SNES.

You should be able to get two controllers, 3-5 games, and SNES, for 40-60 dollars. Good luck :P

If I didn't already have all 3 I'd be getting a SNES first. Most of the games on it have stood the test of time and really hold up well. It was easily the best pre-3D system out there. The graphics on the N64 will be too distracting with how old they are. All of the great games on it have had their gameplay styles redone numerous times, and better, since then. There are still tons of games on the SNES that are gems worth hunting down. Not all of them have had DS remakes yet ;)

N64. Simply because it's the system with Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Those two games trump everything on the other two systems imho. Sure, SNES has some great classic RPGs, but are those fun to play today? I think not. I have lost all patience for random battles... besides, I doubt you're going to find any of those games for cheap anyways. You can get Ocarina and Majora for $10-20, not to mention other greats like Mario 64.

I think Link to the Past is better than both Ocarina and Majora. Also, the SNES has a lot more than RPGs. It has one of the most diverse lineups of any system.

Link to the Past doesn't hold a candle to them. I've tried getting through the game 3 or 4 times. I got really far once, but in the end I just couldn't do it. The immersion, the narrative, just isn't there. The gameplay isn't much fun. Heck, I thought Minish Cap was better.

I prefer Ocarina over A link to the Past by far, and not all people like RPGs much. N64 is my favorite console, but SNES has some masterpieces too. It's a hard decision, but I would go with N64.

Acutally these work really well. I would recomend it, ive had one for like 5 years now and have had no issues. It even uses SNES game pads which are more comfortable.

What kind of hardware issues? I've never heard of this. My N64 runs fine. Unless you are talking about the controllers.

And on topic, go for the SNES. For a different reason....you can still find new products for it.

I think you miss the point of this topic, and this whole forum - Legacy Platforms - not current gen platforms - Perhaps try System Wars. To stay on-topic, I'd probably get an NES first, then SNES, and N64 last. It's a tough choice, but I'd say since you played NES first (so did I) you'd know more what to get for it first. That said, the list of games for SNES posted earlier were a lot of the great ones. Star Fox and Super Mario World are my top 2 for SNES.

The question is do you want 2D or 3D? Niether the SNES or N64 has any real reliability problems. Not much can go wrong with no moving parts. If it's still working now it will probably keep on working.

I do think the really good games for SNES tend to be a bit more expensive then the good ones on N64. Its worth looking into the prices of the games you want for either because it could change your mind.

Since most are saying SNES I have to fight for the N64. There are some great games that should be played, like Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Shadowman, Banjo Kazooie (or anything by RARE really) etc

SNES! First game I ever played was Super Mario World, so many fond memories... never owned a N64, but it did have some fun games (played it at a friends house)... NES was fun but I still didn't get the same enjoyment that I did from the SNES

Why must you choose one? Get all three, all three are nostalgic and Nintendo's best systems. Seriously, you need to have all three. Here are some legit reasons why all three must be chosen, to be equal, there are only three footnotes per system.

Nintendo (NES): The Super Mario Bros. Series, NES Advantage and all of the other peripherals, the nostalgic feel when playing an NES.

Super Nintendo: Super Mario Allstars, Square Enix's Lineup of Superb RPG's, The Best Gaming Library Ever.

Nintendo 64: The Mario Games, Multi-Player Games Such as: Goldeneye, Conker, and Mario Kart 64, The Rare Games like: Conker, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Blast Corps, and Banjo-Kazooie.

So, it's obvious you need to save up those greenbacks for some good nostalgic fun.
