Which version of chrono trigger should I play?

I've been thinking of going back and playing alot of old games that I didn't play when I was younger. I have a Super Nintendo, but I got it a bit after the N64 was released. The 1st game on my list to play is chrono trigger. Should I play the SNES version, PS1 version or the DS version? I wouldnt mind seeing the little animations/cutscenese in the PS1 version.

If you own a Wii, get it on the Virtual Console. I'm pretty sure it's the cheapest version.

Then I would probably pick up the SNES version to play it as it originally was made. The anime cutscenes in the PS1 version are nice, but I heard the PS1 has load times and I wouldn't want load times in my Chrono Trigger.

Hands down the PS version. Not only do you get to play it on a TV (the way it was meant to be played), but you get the added bonus of Final Fantasy IV that comes with it. I know some people complain about the load times and issues with the sound, but honestly it's not bad enough to warrant the purchase of the SNES version. Probably the biggest factor to me is the $10 average pricetag vs the $60 pricetage on the SNES, and that's for the cart only mind you.

piggy backing off your comment the DS version has like 6 extra endings? maybe more and other side quests. but im pretty sure it doesnt have the anime cutscenes if thats what you really wantDjmaster214

Snes it is then. I guess ill watch the cutscenes online after I finish the game.

And if you play the PS1 version on a PS2, you can enable the "Fast Disc Speed" option and it shaves off a few seconds of loading. It really makes a difference.

If you have a Super Nintendo see if you can get the actual cartridge. It is about $70.00 which is about what the game would have cost when it was released. Which is cheaper than buying a Wii $100.00 and Wii points card $20.00

I'm doing the same thing when i get a stream of money coming in.

Thinking about getting them as they were originally made.

I think the DS version is my all-time favorite version of the game - None of the PS1 hiccups, none of the hardware or resolution issues inherent with the older consoles. If you can find it, and have a DS, I HIGHLY suggest going that route. ChronoT, in a PORTABLE... What more could one need? Life is GOOD!

Played both the PSX and (briefly) the DS version. I dunno about the music but I recall the DS game being a port of the PSX version. The anime cutscenes were the same. Except maybe the additional ending, if it had a cut-scene.

I would recommend the DS version, but only if you plan to use a pair of headphones. The portability aspect is just so damn convenient.

Get the Snes version. But then play the PC version with awesome graphical enhancements.

Nah,i'd say the DS version.

If money is no issue as you say, get the SNES version.

The SNES version, that's the only one I played :P

I played it on Snes & VC. There is no difference except that the VC can have 1 save - save the game at anytime. Since SNES batteries in controllers are dead or close to it I would get the VC version if you were choosing between those two, unless you want to buy it for SNES hoping it will go up in value or are a collector.

Play the original then YouTube the anime cutscenes. Honestly, the PSX loading times were a pain even back when the port was brand-new. Doesn't add much if anything.
