Why are people saying Destiny 2 is the same game as Destiny 1 or Destiny 1 DLC

Of course its the same game! Why would it be any different! Its a sequel for a reason.

Did people expect it to look completely different? It has new characters (except the mains), new weapons, and new story. The UI will be the same of course and style of gameplay.

Anyone else agree?

P.S.

I played the BETA is I like it!

@smooth4lyfe: What you just described is DLC. And if you like the game that's fantastic.

Sequels tend not to be the same game, just a similar concept and design. But improved or changed enough to be considered sequel worthy.

As for Destiny, many people bought the original with high hopes and the developers didn't from my understanding deliver on many that wanting of a promised/ certain experience. And for a sequel many did not want the same experience as the previous game.

Destiny has its own audience, not going to question that, even sells. but clearly it's a required taste.

Won't lie, glad I never even considered buying the game. And feel sorry for many that did that ended up disappointed.

Keep in mind many bought it over developer hype and not the quality of product.

I have Destiny and I am disappointed. And I rarely play FPS so I feel like I made a bad choice lol. Luckily it didn't cost much so I just grabbed it as an impulse buy. The shooting mechanics are dope and they do have a good handle on the whole space adventure thing with the different planets, ships, etc but at the end of the day regarding Destiny 2 is that I'm not buying it if I have to play a SP campaign where I have to do very similar missions in the same stages over and over and over. Also no story= no buy from me.

@valgaav_219: Well Destiny did have a story and I'm sure Destiny 2 does as well. I personally thought Destiny was pretty fun. I just like the MMORPG aspect of it where you can see and interact with other players. I agree some of the missions were kind of dull but overall I thought it was a pretty fun game and there was always something new to do which I liked.

Sequels should be improvements, and therefore different.

Yes, they should have familiar mechanics, even for the most part, but they should also dare to change things up for the sake of making things better. Mass Effect is a pretty good example of this; they changed up their gameplay mechanics pretty significantly over the course of three games, and it was by far for the best because while I cherish the original game, it has not aged well as it is a much more boring experience compared to the second and even more so third installment. Each game plays differently despite being incredibly familiar and existing within the same franchise.

Destiny should dare to do things, certain things that is, differently than the first game. I haven't played the first game so take this in context, but while the game has many fans, I know a lot of these people and they have a lot of issues with the game as well. That's obviously a lot of opportunity to change from the original and right the wrongs.

Destiny 2 showed me nothing that Destiny 1 didn't already do. The problem with that judgement is they didn't really show much in the beta outside of some focus on narrative (which is good) and a slightly better looking game visually. There is obviously (well hopefully) more to the game than what they have shown. Destiny 1 really got going at level cap and continued to add more over time. Lets hope they have really changed the overall endgame and added some new, interesting mechanics besides using a melee weapon as a power up. My roommate has already pre-ordered the game and we game share, so I'll try it either way. I'm just not sure if I will put a whole lot of time into this one like the original.

Why would Bungie, the developers behind Halo: CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3(we'll leave out Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach, since the reference is sequels) make a sequel to a highly popular game that is not copy and paste of the previous game with slightly updated graphics, different gear, and a few new subsets of skills? They have always just pushed out expansion like content as a sequel. Never made changes to the previous game's formula, gameplay, game modes, etc.

Now granted the Halo series cannot be compared 1:1 with Destiny. They are different types of games even though they both fall under the broad title of FPS. I would like to believe a team as talented as Bungie could come up with more than they have for this sequel.

Also, take my opinion with a pinch of salt, as I have been jaded against Bungie since the release of the Taken King Expansion.
