Most of them do. The only ones that don't are the 6 hours SP games like Vanquish. There are tons that do. Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Uncharted 2, Resistance 1 and 2, Call of Duty 4, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto 4, Burnout Paradise, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3, Forza 3, Gran Turismo 5, LittleBigPlanet/Modnation Racers, Halo Reach, Call of Duty Black Ops, Starcraft 2, Rock Band 1,2,3, Civilization V, Assissin's Creed Brotherhood, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Fallout New Vegas, Dragon Age, The Orange Box, Crysis, Super Smash Bros, World of Warcraft, Left 4 Dead 2, Street Fighter 4, shadow complex, Toy Soldiers, Battlefield 1943, Trials HD, plus there are too many iphone games and games on the virtual console, platstation network, and Steam. You get the idea.
Honestly I think it is just the people expecting too much and saying oh it could of had this, or that.
Really they do, just like I said it is the people getting too critical. I've been noticing that a lot lately. Games these days have much more than they did years ago and people fail to see that.
There are too many good games to distract you every year, unlike the dime in a dozen games back in the olden days.CRS98
This, people really are unapriciative of all teh good games they have, compared to the 95% crap that came with most other gens.
Mostly hype. There are a few overrated games that aren't worth the price of admission, but it's mostly because of the media.
Go ahead and play a near launch game such as Quake 4 on the xbox or Lair on the PS3 and tell me they should hold their value. Quake 4 looks like it belongs on a Dreamcast and Lair wants you to waggle your controller for some unknown reason.
You know when Oblivion came out we were blown away. I still think its a good game but like the dinosaurs in the movie Jurassic Park it simply doesn't have that OMG I can't believe I am playing this feeling
Because nowadays the developers care about the graphics, not the gameplay factor. And, of course, there are almost none new RPG games, and the new ones - which i wouldn't call rpg games, for eg. dragon age - are crap. Think about the old games, Icewind Dale I-II, nothing has changed in the graphics in the second part sicne the first. The game developers don'tmake rpg games, because they think that there wouldn't be so much buyers, because the dumb people of nowadays don't want to think when they play games, just go forward and shoot.
Twilight Princess is still being sold for $50-60 at retail... and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence Limited Edition runs for over $200 USD on eBay used.
Many games hold their value... you are just looking at the mainstream market of games that aren't made to be good after 5, 10 or 15 years. Just products made for consumption.
I think the problem is this... Games are too easy to get to the end.
In the old days it would be a challenge to get to the end of the game. They didnt have diffilulty that could be set to baby. They were a challenge and you could hang onto a game forever trying to beat it.
In fact, it used to be a super accomplishment just to get to the end of a game. Or if it was based on score, the game could be played over and over again to eek out a higher score.
Now, while the games have gotten better in terms of quality and cinamatic, they suffer in the other aspect and to me when you finish a game now a days in no time flat, its lost its value.
because everyone thinks about graphics so they end up making a beautiful 5 hour game with no re-play value. developers need to stop with the graphics, they are fine how they are, they need to start working on improving AI and making games tougher, i miss the days of Resident Evil 1 where you had to play it for a month to beat it.
Your actually getting to one of the reasons that I think games of this generation don't hold their value as well as previous generations of gaming. When my PS3 got YLOD I decided I wasn't going to buy another one but instead try a lot of games from previous generations that I had never played before. I still have alot of games from this generation that I have not played, but I feel games from previous generations were actually devolped by "gamers" for the gamers, whether the game is aimed at one group of gamers or another, meaning a quality game that you actually want to play. More and more of the current generation games seemed to be aimed at just one thing, lower quality of games and more money, and I think part of this is made possible because the amount of Casual Gamers is just continuing to increase thanks to game franchises like Call Of Duty that target a large group of a certain audience, amongst many other things as well. I've just been wondering why some games this generation seem to not have held their value as well as games of previous generations, and this is one of my thoughts as well as some others.Twilight Princess is still being sold for $50-60 at retail... and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence Limited Edition runs for over $200 USD on eBay used.
