the Adult Only rating exist if they never put a game out with that rating? It seems every time a game gets that rating slapped on it they just modify the game to have an M rating instead. M rating is 17 years old and adult is 18, so what the hell is the deal? I'm only asking because I think they are going to scale back some of the nudity in God of War 3 to keep it from getting the Ao rating. I think they should be able to put out anything they want and if it's so bad, slap a harsher rating on it. For a game like God of War, it's not like it would hurt sales.

It's because the major retailers won't sell AO rated games, plain and simple.

It's considered commercial suicide when a game gets an AO rating. However, with God of War, they could still put in some detailed nudity and get away with an M rating.

The problem is that many stores will not sell Adult Only games. Therefore, game companies need to have a Mature or less rating in order to stand a chance of doing well in the retail market.

Interesting. Is Gamestop included in those who would not sell an Ao game?

I believe so. Most AO games are online, I believe, because online retailers such as gogamer and such care less.

Plus Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo take the same stance as retailers in that they won't allow an AO game to be played on their consoles. I disagree with this because that's what parental decisions, guidance are for as well as the parental controls on the consoles.

An AO rating would definitely hurt the sales of God of War III. Games rated AO do exist, unfortunately, and every one of them should be burned. You can go on ESRB's website to find all the titles that they've rated AO.

There are probably some out there but for the PC.The only way to find them would probably be online or in some naughty shop......Got to love the naughty shops. But these games don't generally sell to well so major game devs usually stay away from them.

They're scaling back nudity in a video game? How will we ever cope...
