I liked it, the supporting cast was great, and the story was not amazing but I thought it was good, the main character was meh.

Hello again.

My only assumption is that Tidus and Yuna both shared a very awkward relationship. Not only is Tidus seen as a 'crybaby' and a kid, both him and Yuna just sort of happened. I don't recall seeing that much happening between them that made them fall in love with each other.

Other than that, I can't think of any other reason for FFX hate. I personally loved it.

FFX was a good,solid JRPG.

The story was ok and ended in a good(yet sadly)fashion.(although FFX-2 destroyed this ending with the perfect ending)

The main character,Tidus, was lame and a crybaby, wich set the tone of the game a bit too childish for my tastes.

Others as Lulu and Auron, were interesting, but like all JRPG´s,the interaction with these(and all other)characters, was mild or non existant.

The main story is a bit cheesy and predictable.

Blitzball was no good to me(but I acknowledge that many people enjoyed it)as it felt repetitive, slow and boring.

The battle system was(in my opinion)better that the previous FF games due to the fact that the ATB bar wasn´t there. It felt a bit more tactical this way.

The only whorthy figth I found on FFX was with Penance, and even then,it´s more like an endurance test,as you basicaly kill the arms, atack penance, arms respawn, kill arms again, atack penance(and try to avoid tetra graviton),etc,etc.....and you do this for like almost 45minutes.

So,all in all,FFX was ok,but not as good as it should have been.(although I found FFXII to be simply execrable...)

Maybe it's cultural thing, but when Yuna and Tidus sort of hooked up, it felt quite natural to me. There were more than enough between them to make that happen.

Here's few things few FF fans might've not liked about FFX.

- The restricted and linear path. FF fans are used to linear gameplay, but at least it was disguised well with the world map. FFX was just straight up linear.

- Completely turn based gameplay. Except for early FF games, FF franchise is mostly known for ATB system. Turn based gameplay that is linked with real time decision making. Absence of the real time aspect kind of made FFX feel too different from the FF franchise fans expected.

- First FF game to have a voice acting, and it wasn't top notch (especially Yuna, her voice actress sucked)

I was under the impression this is one of the more liked Final Fantasy games. I actually liked that FFX was so linear or else random battles would have ruined it.

I love FFX, it is my third favorite final fantasy game of all. Nice visuals, fun gameplay, cool characters, great music, and I for one didn't mind Tidus at all.

I don't hate it, It's not my favorite but I don't hate the game. I strongly dislike Titus and find him incredibly annoying though. And not to mention that very ackward scene where he and Yuna laughs. Pretty petty things I know but the game itself isn't bad, just that Titus character.

I've heard a lot of hatred over various FF games, but the one I never really understood was FFX. I've heard some people say the story sucked without giving a reason why... and that's about it. So why does this installment in the Final Fantasy series get so much bad light from some people?

I agree with this. It's either FFXII or FFVIII that gets a lot of hate. FFX is a good game but it has some annoying things. One of them was already mentioned: the extreme linearity. The other thing that's bad are the sidequests. Also, I didn't care for Blitzball at all.

The only thing i disliked about X was how insanely linear the game felt. It may not have actually been anymore linear than other FF games, it just felt like i was being herded towards an imminent goal the entire time i played. Otherwise i loved it. Probably 2nd or 3rd favorite.

As far as I know, FFX had a great story and cast, but I didn't like the voice acting (mainly from Tidus) and the challenge given to players for FFX was a bit too easy. All you really had to do was keep on upgrading your sphere board and made sure that everybody did something at least once in every battle so that they can gain experience every time. Only a few bosses posed difficulty, but even they were not hard to take care of.

Yeah, especially from me. FFXII because it plays like an offline FFXI and FFVIII is the worst FF in FF history. I hate that piece of s**t! Oh and I had no high regard for FFXI either and will probably skip over FFXIV!

I really liked FFX. It is one of my favorite RPGs.

But I think I have discovered the main reason people hate it so much: the scene where Tidus and Yuna laugh for what seems like forever. I blame that one scene for everything!

The best explanation is simply that the haters are louder. FFX is a very liked game overall, and it is not only my favorite FF, but one of my top 10 games of all time, and I have about 400 games to choose from. That's saying something. Some really don't like Tidus, and the small whistling scene has been overblown in criticism over the game. FFX was chosen as the top game by the RPG-loving Famitsu crowd (I can't trust Famitsu, but the community's love of RPGs makes their look on the genre noteworthy). Though a larger reason is that until later in the game, FFX is very linear, and has no proper overworld. Those that grew up with that system may feel alienated by its absence. I love the game, though.

I didn't really think FFX was THAT much more linear than any other FF. While the other FF games had world maps, they still had you following a single path around the beginning and middle of the game for the most part, the difference is that there was a world map inbetween point A and point B, and maybe time to time another point you could go to, such as a second town, etc. And by the end of FFX, you could go anywhere in the game with the airship to do whatever sidequests you wanted.

My only two complaints with FFX are that I didn't get the international version so I could take on the dark aeons and penance, and also that dreadful laughing scene Tidus and Yuna had. D:

I loved FFX. To my mind it was probably the best battle system on any RPG I've played... I wish Square Enix would sort themselves out :(

Maybe it was the shift in style to a more realistic one that jarred people with fond memories of FFVIII and IX... Did anyone actually like VIII?

It's been my observation that the underlying reason for the vast majority of FFX hate is Tidus. That's the only common complaint I see about the game, and of course it comes from the same people who think that FFVII is pure awesome because of Cloud and Sepiroth.

I personally liked Tidus because it was refreshing to have a vulnerable main character for once instead of the typical silent, ex-military badass that plagues so many RPGs. Tidus was also nice because his character actually developed throughout the game. At the start of the game he's a naive, emotional brat who relies on everyone to help him around. By the end of the game he's now leading the group, gotten over his dad issues, and matured a lot.

Yeah i don't really understand the hatred for Tidus either. If anything, I think they could have made him more helpless in the beginning than they did. He picked up a sword pretty quickly for never having fought before. I think a lot of the problems people saw with him came from the horrible voice acting... as much as I thought FFX was a good game, the english voice acting WAS horrid, and the dubbing was even worse.

When you think about it, it's true that it isn't that much more linear than the others. It's mostly the illusion of linearity the absence of the world map gave. The airship was really great when you got it, especially the Omega Dungeon.

I have the EU version, so I get to experience the dreaded Dark Aeons and Penance. Granted, I've only defeated Dark Shiva, Dark Valefor, Dark Ifrit and Dark Ixion, and maybe Dark Yojimbo, I can't remember. :P They are really tough, I really had to work the sphere grid to be able to beat them.

FFX is one of the few games I've done almost everything in. I even endured the lightning bolt minigame. Wow, that was annoying. Now, all I have to do is get Wakka's and Kihmari's Legendary Weapon, defeat the Dark Aeons and Penance, and kill the final monster arena boss. Whew.

FFX gets a lot of hate from hardcore FF fans simply because it became very popular and brought a lot of "newbs" to the series. It's just a "cool" way of proclaiming your FF veteranism to bash the most popular one. FF7 went through the same thing, for a while, until all the "newbs" from FF7 got to join together with the vets and rag on FFX.

And yet, I didn't hear a lot of fans complain about Crono, not once. Only one friend I know hates him just because he's silent, but I like that actually, especially in Crono's case. After all, his skill as a swordsman and what he can do, through either single or double techniques, does all the talking for him. :D
