Why dont most people wait till a games $20? Theres a bunch of $60 games that you know is gonna be dropped down to $20. Like mass effect 2. Its $20 now. I would have bought it for $60 if I beat the first one I bought. I look at the sales of when they drop a games price down to $20.It sells less for some reason. Im not buying another game at $60 unless its call of duty, gears of war or halo. I dont find it any funner buying the game on first day. Probably gamestop takes all the sales selling it used when it gets down to $20.

I usually wait until games drop in price too, the last game I bought at full price was Fist of the North Star:Ken's Rage and even that was released a bit cheaper then $60.

why buy the crappier games for $60? The only games I buy for full price are Nintendo Games or really really big type games. Games like COD, Gears, and Halo drop fast and usually are 35 dollars in sales.

I often wait for a game to come down to around $40 or even $20. Probably for me its my attitude towards gaming as I primarily play one or two games the majority of the time so I can beat the game, get the best gear and access to the bonus levels. Usually by the time I have done that any game released at a similar release date to what I have been playing has come down in price rather substantially and I find its a good way to get value out of your time and games.

I for one can wait very patiently to get a new PC game. Usually then I can pick up a Gold version with expansions/patches/mods available to buy/download. I will only buy new releases from trusted developers which have proven they don't release bug-ridden or incomplete games...

Mass Effect 2 is still $50 here (games take a lot more time to drop in price here - Steam)

I very rarely buy a game on a lauch date. Like Fallout New Vegas and Bioshock 2 were the only games i bought on day one for a full price. Most of my games i buy off eBay and when they are in 20-30 dollar region (i am talking about new game releases).

If you don't care or need to play a game immediately, it certainly makes sense to wait for a price drop, as software depreciates rapidly. However, as somebody who loves this medium and supports those who develop the games I love to play, I personally feel an obligation to buy many of my games at full price to support the developers.

There are a bunch of games i do wait for a price drop for, things that i don't think are high on my interest list such as the recent Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, Tomb Raider games and games like those. On the other hand with amazon, gamestop and bestbuy all competing for my gaming dollars, i find it almost impossible to pay $60 for a full game. Using codes, giftcards, rebates and certificates I was able to get the CE editions of Fallout New Vegas and Fable 3 for $30, $30 respectively upon release. Also got Alpha Protocol for $5 on day one. If you're conscious about your money and still love the hobby, there are simple ways to cut down on spending. I currently have 10% off coupon and $55 dollars in certificates from best buy for buying other things and $20 giftcard from gamestop for doing surveys online.

If there is a game I've been looking forward to for a long period of time, and I have the cash to buy it when it releases, why not buy it? Halo: Reach, Mass Effect 2, Fable 3, Assassin's Creed 2, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock are all games that I purchased for full price shortly after release. However, I did buy Green Day Rock Band for $60 when it came out, big mistake.

I buy most of my games at their initial launch price because I've been looking forward to them for awhile so when they come out I'm ready and wanting to start playing them right away plus I find them to be worth that price. I'm also an old school gamer and remember paying $80 for Super Metroid, $100 for Street Fighter II, $115 for Chrono Trigger, etc. so paying $60 for the kind of games we get these days seems pretty fair to me.

I usually purchase used and cheap games ($20 or under the majority of the time) but sometimes I'm excited as hell about a game and I got to have it ASAP, so I spend $60 on it. :D

If I really want a game I couldn't bear waiting months to get it. Also, for story driven games it increases the probability to be spoiled.

If I'm not sure if I want a game though I gladly wait until the risk of wasting money is minimized.

There are games I wait for the price drop... (James Bond games have $5 written all over them.) There are others I will pay full price for RDR, Mass Effect 2 ect.

It depends on the game. Also keep in mind games with a multiplayer focus may not even be worth playing by the time the price drops to $20. The first month experience is often worth the extra $40.

I can't speak for "most people", but for myself, I buy games on release date or pay the original full MSRP when the games are: 1) Multiplayer oriented. FPS or MMO, many of these games count on healthy population of players to make the games fun. With titles coming out so often now days, the life of the game's multiplayer aspect is sometimes limited to only the first few months. 2) Released when I don't have a backlog. This rarely happens as there are just so many titles out in the market, and online service like Steam makes purchasing so convenient. When I have 2 games in the backlog, I'm thinking to myself picking up a $60 game is wasteful. But when I have that itch to game and there is no backlog, I'm happy to pay that $60.

I wait for a price drop on everything, and if I need to play the game sooner, I'll rent it. There are some few exceptions to this, however..

Ditto. Hell sometimes waiting for a game to drop to 20 bucks can have backlashes. Say its an online game it took the game more than a year to drop in price. The community could be dead or on whatever the sequel is.

Or it could have been an older Atlus game and the price would skyrocket after the release.

I meant consoles. Usually you have to hunt for a deal, but K-mart usually releases them with a $30-$20 dollar coupon with purchase, and then they all release fairly close to black friday (Halo and CoD) anyway and a lot of places were selling them for $35.

Because they want it right then and now, and don't have the patience.

I usually only buy a game at 60, is if I really want to play it or something. The last game I bought at 50, was Sims 3 -.-, which sucked btw. But most of the time, I'll just wait till it's 20-30.

I'd owe it up to disposible income. When I had surplus money I was buying a full priced game a month. Now I wait for a $20-40 mark moe often than not unless its a OMG MUST HAVE title imo like Dead Space 2. DS is my favorite new IP this gen followed by Assassin's Creed : /

For the majorty of games I will wait for a price drop of under £30 normally around the £25 mark but of course now and again, there will be a game I need on Day One like Mass Effect 2 or the upcoming Dead Space 2. I have several excellent internet shops on my bookmarks and normally get a good deal even on brand new games. This year I got...

Splinter Cell Conviction andAlan Wake cost me about£25 eachafter only 2/3 months after release. Enslaved cost around £22 only several weeks after launch and FIFA 11 cost £29 after several weeks. The best bargain I ever did on the 360 was in May 2009 when I got Dead Space (Q4 2008 Release) for £14.99 brand new and dam that game is good enough to pay £40 for.

in 2011 I plan to pick up loads of games that came out this year for £20-25.

I usually only buy on launch for full price, long single player games that I've researched heavily and have the time to play for a while, or multiplayer games that i will play for years

Other than that I wait for $20 or less

Just the other day I got Bioshock 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction at blockbuster, with cases in good condition for $15 (buy one get one free both were $15)

Typically, I'll buy most anticipated games day one. For example, The Witcher 2, Dragon Age 2, Dead Space 2, Diablo 3, Uncharted 3, etc etc... I'll be buying day one. I want to support the developers as much as possible. Without the gamers buying these games full price, they wouldn't be left with much, and nothing at all when people buy "used." It's a moral obligation for me.. Take it or leave it, at that.

And then, there are games I wouldn't have purchased in the first place but because by some reason, someone recommended it to me - I would highly consider it but only at budget prices. Hidden gems usually fall into this category.

I walked into my local gamestore and in the pre-owned section there was Assassins Creed 2, Bioshock 2, Batman AA, Resistance 2, LBP, Gears 2, Mass Effect 2 and loads more awesome titles all selling for 10 euro each.

I always curse and say the same thing, why don't I wait, but in the end I never can.

Impatience, impulse buying, pre-order goodies would be my guess. Some people just have a lot of money to throw around too. I used to buy games for $60 all the time until I got burned on a few bad purchases. Now I buy them used on Amazon for a fraction of what they're selling for.
