I like them and I did search or did post game to pursue them ... of course it was on games that I did love.

I'm more concerned with the rise of DLC and the fall of unlockable. I remember in the first God Of War you could unlock different costums that had different effect like infinit magic etc on top of looking silly so it was fun to replay the game and try to unlock other stuff ... remember Resident Evil 1 ? You could unlock the rocket luncher, the Magnum and a machine gun, It was cool.

Now it seems they want you to play the game and buy another one or they put multiplayer to keep the game going and put so much map DLC so you continue to put money into it.

I think part of the blame on this goes to the modern day consumer as well as the developer. I actually feel a lot of the blame goes to the modern day consumer over the developer. The developer is just giving the consumer what they want. Gamers now have the mindset that "I want it now, I don't want to have to work for it." I think that is a larger representation of how society is going as a whole, but sure some developers are pushing this as a money-making scheme, and why wouldn't they? It works, and people buy it.

As you can tell by my signature, I have collected a fair share of trophies/achievements. However, about 85k of the gamerscore and up to level 12 on the PS was pre-20s I'd say. I'm 28 now, and gaming is more about the experience of the story etc. I used to search for guides, ways to maximise achievements in the shortest space of time, play on the hardest difficulty, made sure they stacked etc etc. Now I just boot up the game and play. It's certainly less stressful and doesn't feel like I've wasted half my life doing something that's ultimately meaningless.

However, I do feel that the achievements/trophies should be a good 70/80% of just playing the game. Story related and not ridiculous things which require very specific steps.

I will share with you probably my most proud achievement, if that's the right phrase:

Yeah I am not a fan of acheivements; they are a dishonest way to make people play a game for longer than is deserved, add nothing of value to the game, and contribute nothing to the player except bragging rights.

Obviously there are exceptions to this where achievements unlock or reward something, but for the most part...nah.

You hit the nail on the head (although I don't think you were trying to).

Game developers will never be all things to all people. That's impossible.
