I use Gamespot for the forums and for reviews and I use Joystiq for news. I don't use IGN at all.

I visit both sites on a daily basis. I feel like IGN has the quantity, there are always new articles every day, but gamespot has the quality, there are fewer new articles, but they don't post completecrap like IGN often does.

[QUOTE="hippiesanta"]this have to be correct.... IGN's video is way better and faster and they have it on youtube too ....(no offence Gamespot...your forum better than anywhere else)c_rake

GameSpot has their videos on YouTube too, you know. Just saying.

I know that, I've subscribe gamespot youtube too, for awhile.......... but the content of IGN and Machinima is more. But I love Jody on Gamespot, she's eccentric in her own way

My guess is that since IGN is bigger and more well known, game companies let them play the games before GS...

IGN is a joke as far as journalism is concerned, though I will say I enjoy their articles occasionally--namely the throwback ones.

Nope. IGN is more popular because they cater (read: suck up) to more game companies with inflated scores. They also accept review exclusives, which is known, industry-wide, to have lots of behind-the-scene nudging and privledge tied to higher scores. It goes like this -- A game company agrees to give a Site or Magazine exclusive early review coverage as long as it meets a set of guidelines imposed by the publisher. These conditions ALWAYS revolve around scoring requirements. What this translates to is "We'll let you publish this review before anyone else, as long as it's (insert high score here) or above. Otherwise, you can post your review when everyone else does."

Not having exclusive reviews = less hits = less advertiser money = less longevity for the people who run the site.

You figure out the rest.

I think overall this site is better because of how they integrate user profiles. IGN has MyIGN which is mostly a blogger paradise. You blog, have a quote of the day or whatever. You can review games, but only via a blog. You can score a game and add games to your tracked list, but it's very primitive compared to GS. The worst part is any announcements go onto your wall like in Facebook, so you have to filter all the spammers out to see game info or announcements, etc. MyIGN is also not tied into the forums. You cannot visit your profile page and find forum contributions. GS profile pages are far better integrated with a much higher level of functionality. If I want to track games or check announcements, its easy and dumps it right into my profile. What my tracked users are doing is off to the side and doesnt clutter everything. Forum contributions are easy to find and integrated very well. Overall GS did a far better job designing community features for people who dont want to sit and read blogs all day like myself. As for reviews, I do usually prefer IGN. They also have other cool stuff like Comics, movie, and TV news. Then again, they also go cheese ball on the sexual content. Like Sports Illustrated vs ESPN, IGN exploits the sex angle which I think is low. GS has a far better organization to their game database and game profile pages. They also better integrate Metacritic info and such. Final verdict is I just like GS site better. Far better layout, organization, and integration. It also happens to be the best game database on the web. IGN has other content that GS doesnt cover but thats about it.
