Aye, they sometimes give some pretty bad ratings. most of the time they try to line up reviewers that like that type of game so they can give it a fair score. I can see someone giving a bad rating to a game type they don't usually enjoy.

I'd be a really bad person for reviewing games, I can be really picky... especially for FPS, I don't give them much slack.

Well, while I don't concern myself with Harry Potter, I have found a few of their ratings to be - interesting. Twilight Princess, for example. They could have given it that extra 0.1 point to make it a AAA title. I probably wouldn't mind that, except for the fact that Gears of War got a such higher score (and while GoW is an excellent game, I generally would prefer Zelda).

I think it is more about the era the game came out, not stand alone quality itself.

If Chrono Trigger came out now, it wouldn't get 10 even though it is still very fun game to play.

Because if its normally I before E except after C unless you like being weird.

Reviews are just the personal opinion of the writer and like it was said before if the person doesn't like that type of game you deduct points just by having them review it. Likewise you can basically deduct points if it's a movie based game cause its automatically assumed its going to be crap. You also have to consider that reviewers may also not have the time to play an entire game and often base some of their conclusions on other professional players input. They will of course deny this but if it takes 20 hours to finish a game you just got this morning and you have to have the review in by the end of the day what are you going to do? Answer is play it for 4 or 5 hours, talk to the guy that finished it and get your review in on time.

You need to read several reviews and ultimately make your own decision. Hopefully the review (good or bad) gives an accurate representation of the games content.

I actually played both games, and I prefer the first one much more. I just didn't like the board game mode.

The thing is, I don't think the reviewers actually play the games for very long, or even finish them. Didn't the guy who reviewed Shadowrun only play it for like 2 hours? Which is kinda unacceptable for reviewing an online-only game, regardless if the review held water or not.

What does "better" mean? Perhaps a game is better quality-wise, but worse regarding value for money.

One rating that I always thought was pretty weird was for The Legend of Dragoon on the playstation. Gamespot gave it a 6.4even thoughit was way, way better than that. I would probably give it something in the high 8's.

Personally I don't really care what the final score is. the actual reviews are what's important.
