@bussinrounds: Would you kindly explain the "reactivity" to your actions in New Vegas? Or what it was in Fallout 3 that was majorly different to Fallout 1? Cause all I ever hear with these anti-Bethesda "arguments" is lots of adjectives and openly knee-jerk brand loyalty to Black Isle/Obsidian.

Assassin's creed 2 is a good example of an open world game done right for the most part. I think the assassin's creed series in general is the best games this gen. Too many collectibles though and could mix things up more is all. I also agree GTA is overrated but i like the modern driving aspect of it. Would be nice to be a different character though... Watchdogs i'm looking forward to. But when AC and that are the only games like this or close a bit disapointing. Fallout and Skyrim i also like but too much imo. Too much rpg. I'd like more puzzle crime solving or something with tight story. The bethesda games are almost too open with very little narrative.

Ubisoft makes the best open world games right now imo or closest to what i'm talking about. The assassins creed series and watchdogs. Definately more interesting things to do then gta. I even liked la noire because of its story but the interrogation stuff was way overdone and again nothing to do.

@ Celtic_34

What ! Conducting Interviews was the best parts of LA Noire. It only sucked if you got them wrong.

I've played all of them. I kind of disagree. They aren't that good.

I would say the only ones worth playing to me last gen were

mass effect-which isn't even considered open world even though it is. It's open universe and you can walk around your entire ship. what more to do you want. It's mroe an action/rpg though. but all these game have some form of travel where you can travel from location to location and do different things.

Assassin's Creed-No Issues overly. Good game. Too many collectibles. The story and characters could be a bit more creative and memorable.

Sleeping Dogs-pretty good game. Like playing an action movie. I thought some of the acting was poor though and some of the side stuff wasn't that great.

GTA 5-GTA is a flawed series to me. The stuff to do isn't that great. I like the random encounters and the world itself is great but it's still a flawed game of driving here rinse repeat and the characters are unappealing. GTA IV Niko was kind of whatever. High production values. Probably has the highest production values as far as stories go but it's still really unappealing

LA Noire-Cool premise and setting and characters. Again rockstar games are totally flawed imo. Nothing to do outside the main story. Rinse and repeat gameplay. If the made LA Noire more like GTa with puzzle solving that would have been better.

Skyrim and Fallout-Really well done open world rpgs. But totally engrossing and so much to do. Not really a tight nit story. The elder scrolls historically are an open world rpg. They aren't really action adventure games.

Red Dead Redemption-Good game. Like Assassin's creed to me. I liked assassins creed better. Something about the old west wasn't as fun as climbing buildings.

Not worth playing. Saints Row, Crackdown, Just Cause, etc. Tried them they weren't worth playing to me. Too over the top and more of a sandbox action game then an open world action adventure. Also played mafia 2. Pretty good but again flawed with nothing to do. Infamous also falls into this category and batman. Superhero games. More action games. Brutal legend had a good premise but was flawed in it's design.

So that leaves me with Assassins creed as the one game i was fairly satisfied with. Still wasn't what i was looking for overly. The writing in general in these games isn't as good as people make it out to be. They aren't very memorable games. It's not like the original fallout or oldschool sierra games as far as memorable stories and humor.

I'm looking forward to Watch Dogs, Destiny and maybe infamous second son. I guess good is about right. Great I'm not so sure. Skyrim is an amazing game and achievement. So is GTa for that matter but I'd still like better.

In NV, you have much greater freedom over how the story unfolds, with the interplay between the various factions and your choices allowing you to take several different paths through the story.

In F3, this pretty much sums up your choices & consequences (and Bethesda's cringe worthy writing also)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05akmWwvzBQ

You mean to tell me you can't feel the huge difference in overall tone and writing style, when comparing F3 to the other Fallout games ?

Have you even played the games ?

The real questions is are Open World games bad?

Just because you don't like them and think that they are not good doesn't mean that every one dislikes them.

I personally love open world games, yes some franchises could use some improvements but every game could use improvements.

Open world games are my favorite type of game and I find them better than linier games, but that is my opinion.
