THE greatest game of all time? No. ONE of the greatest of all time. A resounding yes!

I guess one must be a specific type of reader as well in order to truly understand and appreciate this game. I absolutely loved the experience of playing through The Last of Us. At home I keep getting asked why I keep going back to it, and my response is different each time, but similar in its nature. I first bought this game for PS3 but didn't quite get the time to go through it. I then got it for PS4 as the remastered version and I finally played through it. I've been through it about 4 times now and I still notice things I hadn't from the last time I played it.

This game has the most immersive and connected storyline I've ever seen in gaming. It draws you and it almost physically connects you through emotion by making you care for the characters. The detail of a post-apocolyptic world is horrifying, and the source of the terror itself makes your cringe. It could have been a movie but it would have just as easily been forgotten, but as a game it lives on as an experience that you live through. The music as well adjusts well as the story moves forward. The detail at the University was astounding. The lighting with the sun about to set, the isolation, and the chaos around you left from the urgency of attempts to control the outbreak envelops you. Some has complained that being the type of game it is it's surprising there weren't as many enemies. Recall that the game takes place twenty years after the initial outbreak.

This is no doubt the best game I have ever played. It may not be too many, but some of those probably never played through it and developed a connection with it. To me a good game isn't one that just gives you a simple thesis, then provides you with a simple mission and allows you to fire away through it. A good game is written well and directed well and is one that immerces you with developing a connection as you play through it, and The Last of Us is every bit of that. A good game takes patience, and this game took a lot of it to put together. The second one is over three years in the making now, and I can't wait to play as Joel and Ellie once again, although I hear we'll mostly be playing as Ellie in this second one. Last of Us in my books is right up there with Metal Gear Solid on the first PlayStation. To me it tops MGS, although MGS throughout the years has built up a deep storyline with many interconnected characters.

Man this thread is old. I'm sure tlou is worthy of the gaming hall of fame but greatest of all time? It's subjective but I feel that honour should go to a Mario or Zelda title.

I'll have to disagree. I can't even see TLoU being better than The Witcher 3. The cutscenes and story were on point but the overall gameplay was a dealbreaker for me. I hate games where I have to run and hide from zombies the whole damn time because I only have 3 bullets. That shit is annoying and time consuming. After a few days with this game I promptly took it right back where I got it from.

It might be a pretty good game, a lot of people seem to like it. But greatest game ever? *laughs* I have never been interested in The Last of Us, personally. And I would say one of the key components of the greatest game of all time would be some damn good gameplay. That's a pretty high bar to begin with, and one that would disqualify a lot of really beloved games.
