Would anybody buy a new version of the PS2 that upscales to HD?

I ask cause i own a 60GB UK software B/C PS3,i do still play the old PS1/2 games sometimes. The software B/C isnt as good as the hardware one as some games have trouble playing. I would just get a PS2 but as some of you know the standard definition picture looks awful on an HD display.

Sony seem reluctant to reintroduce B/C to the current ps3s as the PS2 is still selling so well.

My ps3 does get alot of use with playing games from all 3 generations so i do worry my PS3 is going to break eventually.

So would anyone buy a new "HD" PS2?

No, why would I? the PS3 is capable of doing it and yet Sony are too stuborn and lazy to listen to the consumer.... I would however pay a few bux for backward compatibility.

No, the games would still look like poo, but I guess the jaggies wouldn't stick out as much from being stretched.

It it only upscaled it would be bad its just taking a SD image and merely stretching it to fit the screen out something any modern t.v already does. if they actually changed the internal 3d rendering resolution to HD and apllied some AA and AF it would look awesome like this

^The PS3 upscaling makes the image look much better, way less pixelated, and it fixes it from looking distorted & stretched out. It's not gonna make it a next gen game, but it makes it look decent on a big screen. I get a lot of use out of the feature, it's ashame they removed it.

Yeah, theres much more to upscalling than just streching the picture. Just streching the picture is basically why the PS2 games look worse on HDTV than on an SDTV. Upscalling helps in this issue by actually adjusting the resolution and not just streching. While this isn't an all magical fix, it definetely is a huge improvement.

I just want Sony to add BC back into the PS3 so I can buy a new PS3 and have backwards compatability. I know its not important to all people, but it is extemely important to me. I still have a ton of PS2 games I haven't played and am going to play.

I did not buy a PS3 oringinally due to price, but then the 360 won me over. Now that I would like to add a PS3 to my gaming also, I would LOVE to have upscalling BC for my PS2 games and replace my PS2 from my setup.

I know I could find a used 60GB PS3 with the capability, but I will NOT purchase this kind of system used.

So, given the questions, and assuming Sony will never add BC back in to the PS3, then an upscalling PS2 may actually intice me. Depending on the price. But say $99 still, and I would go for with trading in my PS2 and some games, etc.

I would buy it. PS2 games look so awful with no upscaling on an HD display that I had to go back to using my PS2 on an SDTV. It was kind of funny because I was amazed by how great they look on an SDTV after getting used to them looking like crap on an HD display.

Has anyone ever tried the Xploder HDTV Player for the PS2? IGN wasn't to hot on it but they are the only source I can find that even tried it.

I would have prefered for them to just release a backwards compatibility feature for the PS3, with smoothing as an option, like it does to PS1 games, that would be far better, and I could save some space by putting my PS2 into storage.

No. I would never buy soemthing like that. I have some SD t.v.s still, and the main one I used just died on me recently, but as long as the others last, I'll just keep using those for older systems. There's no way I'd pay for a second PS2, just for an HD output. Plus, it would have to cost more than the normal ones cost now anyway, and that just too much of a waste to me.

no why would sony make that mistake ,,

what you want sony to be sega and push unneeded add-ins/upgrades to their older hardware ,,

they are having a hard time right now as it is ,,

they just now got decent sales but nintendo still out numbers them in everywhere but japan -where their just about 5 thousand behind-when calculating 4 total weeks of sales

that is short lead per month compared to those of nintendos in america alone out selling ps3 to 2 1 how would sony be able to do what sega done -that was segas downfall , i dont want to see another company follow in segas foot steps ,

get a ps3 60 gig

or keep your ps2
