Picture this: You find a retro game at a videogame store you've always wanted to have, but for a high prize.(That you can afford) The game is very hard to find and if you leave the store without it, it might not be there the next time you enter the store. Will you pay the high prize, or will you walk out the store without it?

I had this dilemma when I found Ghost In The Shell for the PSX about a year ago. I had to take the risk of leaving the store and coming back a month later. Fortunately, it was still there the next time I entered the store.:)

Now days you can leave that game in the store and there is a good chance you will be able to find the game for the same price online, maybe even cheaper. 10 years ago though I would buy the game.

Depends how high a price. If it was a game I really, really wanted like Silent Hill and it was hard to get anywhere else apart from ebay and amazon, then I would pay the money as long as it wasn't too extreme. I would pay anything in the region of $50-$60, maybe more.

It really depends on how high the price is.

A definate no, as I'm usually on a tight budget when it comes to video games, so I always scoure every video game store and pawn shop in town every once in a while to find ultra rare video games for a lot less. That is how I was able to purchase the GameCube version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for only $10 last Halloween.

Most i've paid for an old game was $31 for Marvel Vs. Capcom for PS1! And I'm so stupid I traded it in!!!!!!!!!!! It seems like games I never played earlier in life, I get them now and I don't want to play them. But it's cool to collect them, but I feel like whats the point in having games your not going to play.

If it's a game that I've always wanted and is hard to find (like you outlined), I'd overpay everytime and get it.

I do a bit of money calculation and logic. Still, I might end up getting a copy of it in the end. It might not be today but I'll get one for sure.

I think of this back when there was Funcoland (circa 1997) and I was buying up all the NES pirate cartidges I could find. I would have to do it if I could find Action 52 or even more vintage Atari 2600 games since I rarely see those anymore. I'm hard pressed to really think of anything too hard to find on any console still running on discs unless you find some scare Atari Jaguar game and such... again, it really depends on the game but considering I collect legacy systems like Vectrex and Atari, I already expect to pay more from time to time.

It's happened, I saw Ikaruga for Gamecube which I had been looking for a lot a few years ago... I left the store without it recently since it was used, it didn't have a manual and I was worried I'd buy a high price for a game that might be worn out and glitchy. Wasn't that hyped for it anymore anyway >_>

no. i usually only buy old games for like less than $10 (for nes, genesis, ps1) at stores. I dont have any particular games I am willing to pay big $ for. I dont even buy many NEW games for $60.

I would pay stupid amounts for a find...but I much rather prefer to get a gem at super-cheap. Like Suikoden near-mint $10! That's right... scoring with the cheapski feels damn good!

I never buy such over-priced retro titles from shops. Look online and you'll almost always find some one selling the game game for a far cheaper price.

It depends on the game, especially dealing with the Sega Saturn. Take Panzer Dragoon Saga for instance, I was fortunate enough to find the game at a garage sale for like 10 bucks and this thing goes for like 230 bucks online, which I would never ever pay for
