Yeah, I know. For starters, it's a Wii U game... And it has the aesthetics of a game belong in a librarian's story time program. But damn, this is a high quality game. Don't let anybody fool you into thinking otherwise. Touching on the graphics again, it's very charming, clever and of course cute. It also is highly detailed and in my opinion is one of the best looking if not the best looking Wii U games out.

The level design is also fantastic. Sure, it's an easy game if you just want to blow through it, but that's really the point of playing. The point of playing is finding all the goodies. To be honest, I'm not really that excited about finding all the stamps, since I never use them in Miiverse (and actually haven't used Miiverse during this game at all). I just collect the skeins so I can unlock the different colored Yoshis (and they're ALL so adorable!) and of course the flowers so I can unlock the S-rank levels. Just trying to FINISH one of these levels is a challenge, so trying to grab all the stuff in it is even more so. And if you get all the skeins in the S-rank levels, you unlock Yoshis designed after Nintendo consoles! Very cool!

Granted, I haven't played the really big AAA titles this year like Arkham Knight, Witcher 3, MGS V and probably won't even play Halo 5. So I get it if many of you won't even consider Yoshi's Woolly World, but for me, it's the most impressive game I've played this year. I really, really appreciate not only a cleverly designed platformer, but an extremely charming one as well. That's one of the reasons why I enjoyed Kirby's Epic Yarn so much.

Anyone else playing this?

I really want to play it, but I can't justify $70 CAD for a single game. Even if it's a Nintendo one.

The most "impressive" Wii U game of the year? Maybe.

Compared with the AAA games you've listed but have not yet played? No.

Yoshi has its own unique charm which is something quite surprising from a starting point being yarn and as fun as it is, it's nothing overly special. The game sticks with the tried and true SMB formula and expands on it ever slightly. My only complain thus far is how light on content it seems.

Yeah, it does. The last night Yoshi's Island I played was five worlds as well.. It's a shame it's not a standard eight like Mario games, but to its credit, if you spend the time looking for stuff, Yoshi levels are actually a good bit longer than Marios, so it kind of balances out.

Interesting choice. Haven't played it myself (no Wii U), but it does look like fun. My personal GOTY is still Bloodborne so far.

I'd definitely pick it up if I had a Wii U.

At least it's not $80 like EA Sports games..................................... on Xbox 360/PS3.

Bleh. Makes me kind of glad I've mostly converted to PC gaming and Steam/GOG.

Just unlocked a sixth world I didn't know the game had... That's a pleasant surprise! Not as short as I thought.

Just beat the game! Very happy with it. I just got one S rank level to do and then I'll have unlocked all the different Yoshis (sans Amiibo, though).

I got myself the game packed with the yarn amiibo and I'm quite surprised by it so far. I've been playing co-op with my girlfriend and it's an absolutely great game. The graphics are some of the prettiest I've ever seen, it's art direction is among the best, but what caught me by surprise is the music. The game's soundtrack is so good that I enjoy staying in a single level for more than fifteen minutes just searching for the hidden items.

We're just getting into world 2, but so far I can say that it's on track to being one of my favorite platformers ever.
