You know, it makes me smile to see someone who enjoys relaxing games. All too often I hear people whining about games with a lack of goals, objectives, speed and violence. Over the last year or so my gaming tastes have become much more relaxed, co-operative and peaceful. Games such as Animal Crossing, Electroplankton, Hotel Dusk: Room 215, Another Code (Trace Memory) and dare I say it... Wii Play, all put me at ease. Similarly quite a few DS puzzlers also have a similar trance-like effect- Meteos, Picross DS and Puzzle League. I also have some excellent imports for the GBA called 'Bit Generations', one of them- Soundvoyager- is extremely relaxing. You can literally play it with your eyes closed as the game is based around sound.
Zelda can be very relaxing too, just exploring the landscape or stood on top of the tower in Kakariko village in OoT whilst thetranquil music plays, very relaxing indeed.I am very much looking forward to Endless Ocean on Wii.

I'm really looking forward to endless ocean as well. They just need to add voice support, otherwise it will be impossible to communicate with your friends (though im not sure any of my friends are getting it... they like really adrenaline games).

Yeah, at very least there should be some sort of gesture system to communicate online. I also need to get an SD card, if I have to endure the warblings of the music on the trailers then the game will be far from relaxing! Brian Eno, on the other hand, would be a perfect fit.
I was lost in my own world when I played Myst 4 Revelations. Any adventure game for me really because you don't usually die. The only challenge is to get to the next part of the story.selbie

I agree with almost all of this post. Additionally for some reason I find space shooters relaxing and they probably are my all-time favourite genre. The best of them manage to induce a trance like state in me which is both relaxing and exhilerating.
I also forgot to mention another game (well something I like to do in the game that is relaxing) and that is Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. I like to do something in the game that relaxes me, but it's in a very sadistic way.
I like to build a rollercoaster, and forget to put the rest on it, leave it overhanging a walking path, put a no entry sign on the walk path so when the people walk past that point, they can't turn around and leave because of the no entry sign. I wait until the walking path gets pretty full of people, I let the rollercoaster fill up and then it's take off time. Get some speed built up, takes the turn to the missing link of the rollercoaster and crashes into all the people and I watch my park visitors die one by one. It's rather funny to watch it happen, and everytime I do it, I still laugh.
Just building amusement rides, especially the rollercoasters, because the designs are endless is just relaxing and fun to do. It's fun to see just how fast you can get a rollercoaster to go, and how many people you can get sick from it. Or make lots and lots of loops and things like that.

Hehe, I read an article a while back about that kind of thing and it was referred to as "bastard physics".
I used to mess around on The Sims, trying to kill them all in the most interesting ways. I'd make a swimming pool with no step-ladder out. They die after a few days. Also if you create a little island in the middle with only a telephone, you can ring all the neighbours and every service. Delete the island and create a front door next to the diving board. When people arrive, they'll get bored and end up jumping in. The pizza man, the fire man, the maid, the gardener etc.
Aside from killing them, I like to keep neighbours as slaves. Create a house as usual. At either the back or side, construct a hallway with separate rooms as if part of a prison complex. Invite a friend over but delete the 'real' front door and create a new one into one of your cells. Answer the door and trap the bugger. Make an interior window for your own viewing pleasure. Give them a fridge to keep them alive. Their life will be pure agony. They will live a life in a tiny room among their own excrement. Repeat the process and build a collection.
I'm evil. :D

Very interesting. I'm going to have to try those sometime. Anything where you can torture someone on a simulation game, it's just really funny. Like on rollercoaster tycoon, make little rivers and build bridges over them and as people are walking over the bridge, delete that part of the bridge and watch them fall and sink. :D

I love it. You should teach a class in exploiting emergent gameplay.
I find the Monkey Island series relaxing, but particularly Monkey Island 3. Because the smooth colors and the great, funny dialogue. Always cheers me up. Grim Fandango is relaxing too, great atmosphere and funnydialogue. Any adventure game really, the ones with unique settings, which at second thought thereare too few of. *Sigh* I wish someone else than the developer of the crappy Runaway games would make goodadventure games again... Those were the days...
The Sims(Probably the Sims 2 if I bought it), it's just nice to sit down, play a game where I don't have to think, "LOLZ TEH BULLETS ARE COMINGS", and it's nice and colourful and happy and fun and so many things to do, it's just nice to sit down and mess around. GTAIII+, they're just fun to ride around in the car and listen to some music, as well as walk around, cop chases, shootouts, etc. I just die and come back, hang around more, you don't always have to follow a story, just have some fun. World of Warcraft, same as the other two pretty much. Also, adventure games like Indigo Prophecy and Snatcher, I can play, I get to TALK to others, to explore, to walk around, to find things out, to sit down, and not worry about getting caught, shot, or running out of time as much as I do in other games. It's nice, like in Snatcher, to just talk to people or in Indigo Prophecy, to again, just talk to people, and solve the puzzles and all that, soothing.
Hitman: Blood Money as well, I can walk around, without shooting people, just using my disguise, stealthly killing people, using silencers, walking around, lack of frustration. Rainbow Six Vegas online, it's just nice to start a match, jump in, shoot guys, get shot, talk to the other players, etc, that's pretty much for any online game though, but that's the only one I've truly invested time in. Skate and Tony Hawk games, just riding around doing tricks, no worrying about goals.
Bejewled, yes, I like casual games, just solve the current puzzle, move on, lose, etc. Modern pong, same thing, billiard/pool games, same thing, just play the game, win or lose, sit down, just like a real game of it, as well as Bowling games, same thing. So yeah, lots of games are nice to just sit down and relax. I see myself becoming quite the casual, I really don't care though, as casual as a game gets, one must remember: Movies don't even have controls, yet they're awesome.
Wow... I don't think I have one.
I always get hyped up when I play games, mostly FPS, Action or RPG games where I wanna stomp badguys (or my friends sitting next to me).
I get stimulation from games, not necessarily relaxation.
Harvest Moon: Back to Nature
No bosses to fight, no levels to complete, just pure uninterrupted gameplay. I like the freedom to do whatever you want, be it fishing, mining, gathering food from the forest, getting to know the community, etc. The relaxed countryside setting is really nice to play after a hard day at work or school, and you never get frustrated with this game, which is what I love about it.
