My favorite role playing game is probably Final Fantasy VII, it was also the first one that I actually like. I love the story and characters, and the mechanic was very well done in my opinion. This was the game that got me into RPG, and it was the first Final Fantasy game that I played. It was just a great experience when I first turned it on.
My favourite role-playing game? Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines. It is the only RPG in my life that I have played that has made playing a role as similar to that of the actual D&D PnP styIe. I truly do think that so many games are falsely categorized as "RPG's" when they are in fact not role-playing games at all. Most specifically, a lot of JRPG's... but there are a significant amount of WRPG's that fail to follow the "role-playing" standard that was set so many years ago by D&D.
Call me old-fashioned but I like to role-play when I play a role-playing game.
For me it's a toss-up between Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. The way they implemented the New Game+ in those games was fantastic and time travel rocks. I replayed those games many, many, many times.
My favourite RPG would have to be the original Diablo. It was the first game I ever played online. The idea of cooperating with other players to slay monsters, collecting ph4t l3wt, and showing off your cool equipment was such a novelty.
I remember the first time a group of players and I worked our way down through the levels of hell to kill Diablo. I don't think we succeeded that night, but it was a thrilling adventure and we all had a blast. It was also the first time I ever played a game till the wee hours of the morning...3:30 AM to be precise. I remember being totally surprised and wondering where all the time went. This was way back in the summer of 1998.
