There are some games I haven't played (or played properly) on your list, such as Street Fighter and Castlevania 64, but I found your post really interesting. I am all for opinions, but just wanted to talk about the ones I personally would have nowhere near my least favourite list :P.Crash Bandicoot 3 - To be honest, I can't go wrong with any of the original 3 Crash games... they are all excellent. But I felt that maybe Crash 3 was the best of those 3. The locations were awesome, it had great, new, fun game modes and features, and an awesome menu screen which was better than the last two (where you run around). I felt it really worked upon all Crash games and it did it's job well done.
GTAIV - I know what you mean about some of the missions being off, but I still found the game to be enjoyable. My main problems with GTAIV was the fact that it was too serious and not as many jokes. The game also wasn't as over the top, mission or gameplay, wise, as the other GTA games, especially San Andreas. Hopefully the next GTA will address all of the problems with GTAIV though. But I disagree, I think that the graphics were pretty good for its' time! :) they're still decent now, although they probably fit in with the "average" graphic games of today these days, but it is over 3 years old.
MGS3 - This is perhaps my favourite of the MGS games. I know where you're coming from though, and of course I respect that :). A Jungle setting doesn't really sound like the most exciting location for a video game (it took me a long time to appreciate Tomb Raider III's). My only problem (and a lot of others) with MGS2, was the fact that you used Raiden for 3/4 of the game. I don't particularly dislike the character, it's just that I like Snake so much better. It was like when you had to use Kurtis Trent in Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness for a few levels... disliked it. Lara is the star of Tomb Raider, just like Snake is the star of MGS.
Resident Evil 5 - I understand. The game was too colourful and not scary at all for it to be a REALLY successful RE game. Nighttime/lightning and rain/misty skies/occasional daytime/morning is what makes RE. RE5 was pretty much just really bright and sunny. Some sections also felt painfully long with no cutscenes. I still enjoy the game though, but not as good as RE4 in my opinion.
Sonic is a kind of hit and miss game. I haven't played too many Sonic games, but the ones that I have played, the original and 2, I have played to death. They're fantastic games :). If you need a Sonic game to try again, try Sonic 2. Perfect blend of gameplay, locations, music, length and boss fights :). But of course I still respect your opinions, just wanted to talk about those games a little bit :).Ashley_wwe
Crash Bandicoot 3 - I agree! All three of the original Crash games are excellent. Even if Crash Bandicoot 3 is my least favourite I've still completed it at least fifty times. I enjoy the previous two games a lot more though due to some of the 'innovating' changes Naughty Dog made to the game:
-As I said before, the game is way, way too easy. The last thirty or so times I've completed the game I haven't died once (no joke). It's funny I mention this actaully since a friend of mine has recently been playing Gears of War 3 (he got an early copy) and he claims it's a lot easier than the first two games. It seems that popular game series often end up becoming easier with later releases in the series in order to make the game more acessible (therefore being much more likely to produce better sales).
-I was never a big fan of the power-ups. Like most of the additions to Crash 3, they're just gimmicks. They felt badly implemented, and apart from the belly-flop technique they were never even required in the game whatsoever, even if you're going to 100% it. When I first played through the game I thought the fruit bazooka was pretty neat, but seeing as it's never actually needed in the game, I was pretty bummed. At first I thought to my self "They must've included it to make the game a lot easier for kids", but I soon proved my self wrong as you can't get the power-up until you've beaten the fourth warp room anyway (aka near the end of the game). I thought the ability that allows you to glide in mid-air was cool at first, but once again, when I realised it serves no purpose whatsoever (i.e it's not required for anything) I came to the conclusion that was also a gimmick. The best power-up was the ability to sprint. The aspect I like the most about the Crash games are the fast pacing, so I found this power-up to be an awesome addition. Not just that, but it was actually useful since it made it possible to get platinum relics/developer time relics in the time trials.
-The main thing I dislike about the game: the medicore Coco and vehicle levels. Admittedly I did like the motorcycle levels. They were fast and fun (which is what Crash is best at), but they did become a nuisance when your trying to break all the crates, because you can't turn the motorcycle around in case you missed any, which can easily happen. This forces you to restart the level and try again, because there are no checkpoints and you actually can't die in these levels anyway. The plane levels where you're objective is to shoot down blimps define the term mediocrity. They're definately not terrible by any means, but they're definately not very enjoyable either. It's annoying that the vertical controls are inverted, too, and unlike Crash 2 in jet-pack levels, you can't change them in the options menu. The speedboat levels, accessible only by Coco, are by far my least favourite levels. I just found them to be extremely tedious and they can also be a nuisance when attempting to break all the crates since the levels are quite large. Lastly, but not least, are the levels where you ride the tiger cub named Pura. They're basically the same as the warthog and polar bear levels from the previous two games. I like these: good level design and the fast pace = fun! :)
It's still a great game that I enjoy playing every now and then. I only tend to play the PAL version though, because compared to the US/Japanese versions of the game the difficulty level is higher (although the game is still way, way too easy as I've already mentioned) and Crash controls a lot better.
Anyway, I respect your opinion! :) I'd imagine there's a lot of people who view Crash 3 as their favourite of the trilogy, probably because they'd like all of the additions the vehicle levels and the power-ups. Oh, and you like the warp room? Haha, I've never liked the warp room in Crash 2 or 3! I just never understood what the purpose in having the player walk about when selecting the levels was for. I've always greatly preferred the world map concept that was used in the original game. I always find it fun to look around the world maps in games as there's usually a lot of detail put in and even sometimes you'll spot little easter eggs and the such! :D Heh, after typing that out I've just remembered something! In the beta version of the game the world map was actually done in 2D and it's actually really cool. I've tried googling for it quick but with no luck. I'll message you the picture of it when I eventually find it! :)
GTA IV - Yeah, I wish they would've stick with the San Andreas style. The game was far too serious and focused too much on the (in my opinion) uninteresting story. I found that a lot of the story missions were just go from point A to B, escorts, awkward shootouts...The typical, boring stuff. I found the controls to be good for the most part, but the driving and the shooting felt awkward. What did they improve upon with this game? Well, the fist fighting was more enjoyable this time around and the fact that there's no longer any load times when entering buildings was awesome...But that's honestly all I can think of. The graphics weren't terrible, they were decent at the time, but the game looked quite choppy and everything in the distance was really blurry. I understand that it's a sandbox game and to make it run without slowdown they're going to need to make cutbacks, so the engine works by having extremely low detail for everything in the distance. However, everything in the distance always looked really blurry to me. It felt as if I always playing too far away from the screen.
MGS3 - If only I had a pound for everytime I've heard someone call it their favourite of the series :P It is a fantastic game, there's no denying it. I just really couldn't get into it. However, I must admit that I never beat the game like I did the others in the series....So it's pretty unfair for me to be calling it my least favourite of the series when I haven't fully experienced the game like I have the others. I'm picking up the soon-to-be released MGS HD collection so I'll give the game another chance then! :)
Contrary to most people - including you :P - I enjoyed playing as Raiden. I loved fighting alongside Snake as it gave a new perspective on him that we would've never gotten had we not been able to see him through Raiden's eyes.
Resident Evil 5 - Agreed...The loss of the survival horror aspect just really ruined it for me. Sure, Resident Evil 4 added more action elements than your typical survival horror, but it was still an actual horror game overall. The game can still provide some fun (who doesn't love blasting zombies in the head with a shotgun?), but it's definately my least favourite of the main series.
Sonic 2 - Completely agreed. Sonic 2 is a fantastic game, and it's funny you mention it actually since I've been playing it a lot recently. I don't like it as much as the other main 2D Sonic's (1, 3 and CD) though...But whatever, you can't go wrong with any of them! :)
I'm gonna end this post by saying I respect your opinions! :) And typing all of this out made me think: I guess no game in the world, no matter how popular or innovative it is, isn't going to please everybody.
