It seems as though every big game to come out, that games message boards complain about how Gamespot is a joke now and IGN gave the game a better score. The two most recent being Bioshock and Metroid Prime3.I agree with most of GS's reviews and I wanted to know if its just the games fanboys that whine and moan about GS sucking or if it really is a majority.

whats funny is that everytime the fanboys for each respective system feel GS "underscores" a game is because they're biased against that system.

It seems to me that Gamespot is the best in their reviews. I've rarely seen one that sounded unreasonable, and the fact that they rate lower on average than IGN or other sites makes me value their reviews more. Seriously, every half way decent game shouldn't score 8.5-9.0 and Gamespot doesn't do that.

I like Gamespot just the same as I did before, Its a shame that some users of the site concentrate so much on one platform or game that they don't appreciate the richness and variety on offer.
Gamespot to me is more than just a place where I can read a review of a game I'm going to get anyway I like to use it to learn about the games and platforms that I won't have the opportunity to play myself and I also like the community involvement that comes from swapping story's and experiences that occur outside of video games.

If anything it's fanboys themselves that would push me from Gamespot, not the actual site itself.

Everyone one knew it was gonna get a less than perfect score. But people are kinda of mad about gamespot changing the review system, underscoring reviews(just a little, I don't think BioShock is perfect but i mean cmon, at least something a little higher), and (which is making LOTS of people ignoring this site now) not covering the Wii as much as the next gen games. We all know theres a lot more previews we should be seeing right now, so if GameSpot could just listen to the peoples voices, you'll make some people a lot happier(sorry for people that disagree with me).

Definently, I hate the .5 scoring system. I also miss the little bars that measured section of a game.

Well I still love the site. It is a natural thing to disagree with scores and reviews for games but I don't understand what goes through some of the people who start to hate GameSpot because of them doing a professional review. I think that sometimes hype can kill a game and its a shame. I also don't understand how people can start to get that worked up about a review for a game and start to post with hate about it. If a user starts to not like the reviews then they can simply leave the site but so many people have gotten so angry and start to just go 'crazy' on the boards.

I think the gamespot reviews are very accurate. It seems like a lot of the other sites release their reviews to go along with all the hype surrounding a game, and later you get the gamespot review with a more logical and professional review of a game. Take for instance MP3, ign gave it less points just because it was a sequal. That doesnt have anything to do with reviewing a game, and doesnt help me decide if I should buy the game or not.

Im not a fanboy by any stretch of the imagination. Thru the years I have owned every system thats ever been out going back to the original NES. I actually buy my games according to the GS reviews. I've always known them to be a trusted source. But as of late, i've been extremely dissapointed by their reviews. It seems like this Kevin VanOrd guy is causing most of the problem. He'll rate MP3 an 8.5 because its similar to the previous games, instead of rating it based on its own merit. Then gamespot goes ahead and rates Super Metroid (SNES) with the very same score! There is no way they deserve to be rated on the same scale. Dont get me wrong, super metroid is one of the greatest games of all time, but there is no way its on the same level with MP3 when it comes to level design, graphics, gameplay etc etc. Long story short, the system is flawed. IGN's review of MP3 was more accurate cause it rated the game on the game itself, not based on the previous MP games.

I've always had a little dismay for GameSpot, but that doesn't mean I've always been dismayed. GameSpot's been one of the sites I regularly visit--well, lurk on, but still visit--for a few years now. I'm satisfied. And frankly, I couldn't care less about the reviews.

why such a stupid question?

of course gamespot is relaiabe source of reveiw, they never always have your complete agreement. it feels that even though they are reveiwing it they really are just looking for the bad points in the game compared to other sites that are most likely being bought off by a gaming company to better their chances of selling off the game even more, i bet even GS does that often then never, its one of the ways reveiw sites make good money. and overall theres nothing like knowin if the game is worth buying than to see it yourself, trailer style!

Gamespot is the only site I really rely on for news/reviews/previews.

I will say that I preferred the older review system that they used. Sometimes a game isn't really a 7.5 but not really as high as an 8 either...

I wish they'd do .25's instead of the .5 system. But that's just a numeric thing that appeals to my brain more.

so basically... yes... I still LOVE Gamespot.

Most are just Fanboys. There are some cases where games should have recieved higher scores, but those are my opinions, just like the ones on this site are gamespots opinions.

Gamespot is much more than just reviews and some people are bound to complain about change. (*remembers the site redesign*)

I'm happy with it or I wouldnt be here.

I like GS cause they actually use ALL the numbers in thier rating scale, Its one to ten people... not seven to ten.

Like IGN would have you belive.
