What's up with the Level/Ranking thing?

I have kind of a pointless question, just out of curiosity. I've subscribed to Gamespot for a while now and always wondered what was up with the level 13(51%) stuff at the top right. I see that it gradually climbs, but I'm not sure why. Up until today I don't think I've ever posted on the forums, so I know it's not related to that. I don't really contribute anything at all, actually. I basically just read the forums, reviews etc.

I'm a little bored right now and was just curious about it. Is there any advantage to high rank? What's the highest it goes? It seems pretty neat, and I was just wondering about it.

I want to reach a level that was once thought unreachable. A level where I am able to kill the admins...xeekthecatx

Yeah, posting doesn't matter, but on my level, when I post many times in one day, I get a big increase (5%)
