I think my computer might have a virus. My programs sometimes just don't work, and the only way to fix it is System Restore, which I've done 3 times. Any help?

That doesn't necessarily means it has a virus. Just try some virus software, and if all else fails, just wipe your entire HD clean or get a new one.

I think you go into your bios, find the :C drive, and there should be a format option there I think.

I think you go into your bios, find the :C drive, and there should be a format option there I think.

typically, the easiest way to format is by simply using the system restore disk that should have come with your machine. It sounds like your computer may be pretty messed up, so reformatting may be the best choice for you, but you might want to look into some alternatives. Try downloading the usual stuff, Avast! AVG Tennebril, Ad-Aware, Zone Alarm, Ccleaner, Simple File Shredder and hijack this is my basic maintenence suite. You can thin this down effectively to Avast! Ad-Aware, Zone alarm and Ccleaner. Here is how to speed up your computer. First, run your cleaners. (Ccleaner, SFS) This should increase overall system preformance even if it doesn't fix your problem. Also, fix any registry problems by using the tool on Ccleaner. You will want to take a look at startup entries to make sure all you have in there is essential stuff. Next, Do deep scans with all of your malware detecting programs. (Avast, AVG, Tennebril, Ad-Aware) Take the suggested action to remove threats. Once this is done, do some clean up by running your cleaners again. If you are still having problems, try running a hijackthis log and letting someone who knows what they are doing look over it. You might still have some malware that your scanners were not able to catch. In order to maintain a fast computer: run your cleaners as much as you find time to do so. Also keep your registry in order with Ccleaner, or download Registry Mechanic. Try to run weekly scans with your scanners and ALWAYS run a firewall. My neighbor's network got infested while I was doing a bit of direct leeching and zone alarm kept me safe. Hope this helped ;)

Thanks. I used that Avast! program, and it got rid of 28 infections.
