This is simple plain, undeniable fact, folks. Scientifically proven. In fact, all that Ocarina of Time really is is a reskinned ALttP made in polygonal 3D (and even then, it fails at being the best 3D Zelda).
The superiority of A Link to the Past is demonstrated by the fact that it actually laid down the foundation for every single series convention, that have been mindlessly followed since. This includes structure of the story, world design, dungeon design, the two world mechanic, as well as recurring series themes such as the Master Sword and Kakariko Village.
A Link to the Past also had some of the best dungeon design, with the Ice Temple, Turtle's Rock and Ganon's Tower in particular being devllishly hard. It also had some really ingenious items, as well as excellent ways to use them. The bosses were incredible, and while Link looked like a n00b, he controlled like a dream (although admittedly, the combat could have been better in this game).
Ocarina of Time was an incredible game, folks, no doubt about that. But its brilliance pales in the luminous ingenuity of the beacon of incredible game design that is known as A Link to the Past.
