Don't you just hate it when a 2D game remake/sequel goes 3D and the devs have the cunning idea that the game must play as if was still a 2D game? Why make it 3D then? if you're gonna forefeit what actually makes 3D worth it and most of all the obvious advantage of 3D over 2D.

I've always thought that those kind of games end up feeling awkward instead of being great. VP2 should've been full 3D integrated or it would have ended up better staying in 2D. Seeing as the original was a very gorgeous game in it's own right.

Other things that made the first one great aren't done as great in VP2. Like in the first one with it's beautiful artwork, it set-up the mood of the game's world perfectly. Everything in Midgard felt grim, cold and muddy, just like a medieval-like setting on that specific part of the world would feel. In VP2 everything is so shiny is sickering. Every character looks like he's some sort of apparel mannequin who's never left the store. Even the common unimportant townsfolk who'll say he's traveled a lot has his armor polished to a mirror shine. Even the own original artwork contradicts the 3D models used in the game.

What's worse is that most of the whole mood of VP is nearly gone in VP2. VP had a sad, even melancholic mood and storyline, with most einherjar's deaths depicted greatly and made the player relate to the characters, and their deserved or undeserved deaths, it was also great how the player was realising how Lenneth was being scammed by Odin and Freya. Now in VP, most of the characters are now anime-ish one dimentional as they can be, even Alicia/Silmeria are one dimetional polarising characters. Really, the only characters you mostly end up caring for are the returning ones, and more because of what you already know about them from VP than what they show about them here. Most new chars are as forgettable as they can get.

Also the VA is lacking, people speak as they would speak in other JRPG's like Xenosaga.

So far I don't think Tri-Ace is hacking it as they did in the PS. Though SoA3 was a good JRPG, it was far behind the beautiful game that SoA2 was. Same with Radiata Stories, although it was a very fun romp, you could clearly see the game's flaws the second time you played it. Now in VP2 the gameplay is not necessarily bad, but the soul of the JRPG the storyline and mood, is downgrated from the original.

I really hope the next game entry ends up being better.

*edit* Grrrr..I just noticed that smiley =( And you had me ranting too..curse you.

Mmm, Godhand looks like you can have a lot of fun with it, despite the control issues I'm hearing about. That and I love the sound track, the humor is reminiscent of Kung Fu Hustle / Shaolin Soccer.  I think it's quite a nice homage and we haven't seen a decent straight beat-em-up in awhile. Now...GeoW...Graphics are impressive, yes.  Environments are also impressive, but I don't like that grungy style that's all over the place with it. It just seems so bland.  Gameplay wow-factor is a real letdown, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt because they say it's less basic than it looks.  I can't honestly say that what I've seen of GeoW has been more impressive than LP because that would be untrue.  All LP trailers have had crazy wow-factor, with each one more-so than the next.  It's seriously under-rated and I still think it'll kick the living crap out of GeoW when it comes out.

Don't scratch it off just yet. One's oppinion is not shared by all. I've tried some import version of God Hand, and its not as amazing as you might expect. As long as you only expect a good but not like OMFG best game ever from VP2, it likely will not dissapoint, some people always expect perfect sequels though.

I'm actually not counting it off, but I won't pay $50 for it.  I'll see if I can pick it up for cheaper later.  I haven't heard really amazing things about God's Hand, but what I've seen of the gameplay and have heard of the music, it looks like a lot of fun to play.  It's also only $29.99 and I'd like to experiment with my arcade stick to see if it works well with 3D brawlers.

Yeah changing the controller could help alot for god hand, the PS2 controller just seems kinda bleh for it.

Actually one would believe everyone would expect an improved sequel. Specially 6 years after the original. :|

Guess it's just me.

Actually VP didn't felt at all like a movie. VP2 on the other hand.... it seems that teh evil Square CGI FMVs have taken over.

Seriously though, why do they feel that every game they publish must have those CGI's? Sure they're nice, but I feel they can take over the game more than what they should.

DQVIII didn't have them, and IMO it's the best JRPG they have published in a long while.

Well, I can agree with a whole bunch of your points, but so far its not really runing the experiance for me, a couple of my VP loving friends bought the sequel as well and they seem to be enjoying it as well. I was never expecting it to be exactly like VP, due to its style I was just expecting it to be a new kind of experiance, which it was.
