I ask this because I plan on getting a new computer soon, and I don't keep up too much with this stuff. Basically, how will it improve over XP, and by how much? Where there be new aspects, like being able to have multiple accounts with XP, or will it be the same stuff, just rehashed?
About the only major improvement for Vista is DirectX10...Everything else. Linux probably has already and improved upon. Vista is mainly just for combining your entertainment systems and improving gaming and such. There is no great upgrade in this one like XP or 98
Vista has the best GUI seen yet on a Windows operating system (they borrowed heavily from Mac OS-X to get it, too) and it's supposedly far more streamlined, more secure and more integrated then XP was.
From the looks of things, some XP games actually run worse on vista than they do on windows. That doesn't sound very promising to me. Although DX 10 alone is worth it, but I wouldn't vouch for its back-wards compatibility efficiency.
