I plan on most-likely buying a game tomorrow while I'm out. I'm either gonna buy MGS2 or Killer 7. I've already beatin MGS3 and am currently in the process of beating MGS1:TS. I seem to just have gotten inturested in Killer 7 for the past, like 10 minutes. The whole concept just seems cool and worth it. They're both pretty cheap, but I still don't wanna buy both at once. Which do you guys think would be a better choice? Also, what's the difference between Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance?

Well, you need both of those games.  But if you''ve just played the other Metal Gear Solid games, you'll probably want to continue with the series.  So I'd go with MGS2.  Just make sure you pick up Killer7 before it disappears, its a very cool game.

Since you've got the bearings of MGS, I'd say go with MGS2.

I'd say go for MGS2. If you can, get Substance, it's everything that made Sons of Liberty great + a whole lot more awesomeness.

Killer 7 seems interesting but it's got some really mixed reviews. I'd go for the proven winner right now and wait a bit on Killer 7.

I don't see where all this Raiden hate was coming from. Sure, he had his problems (whined a lot) but he had his badass moments too. I swear, Kojima brought him back as the Ninja in MGS 4 just so he could earn himself a bit of respect.

I think the majority of it is from the Solid Snake fanboys who were mad they couldn't play as their favorite character any more.

Yep. I had no problem with him but the amount of people who complain is ridiculous. I enjoy playing as Snake but once you get pulled into MGS2, you forget about being mad about not playing as Snake.

I think you've pinpointed it.

I also think most people don't realize why Kojima made you play as Raiden instead of Snake...he wanted you to play as someone who wouldn't be perceived as some kind of superhero (as Snake) is.  Instead he wanted someone that could be easily manipulated and lacked control of his situation.

I've heard a bunch of different reasons behind putting Raiden into the spotlight. That's just one of them.

One is, he didn't want to treat Snake like a rookie again (introducing him to the codec features, weapons, etc.).

The second, is Kojima wanted to portray Solid Snake in the third person, and develop his character more, outside of the lead role.

That's all I can think of at the moment, but I know there's more.

Kojima  did a survey with girls about mgs because he wanted to bring in more girls to the series

this contributed to the birth of the uber sexy and sometimes naked RAIDEN

Its funny, because its true.  From his design proposal:

Acquiring female players (only a sub-target)

Characters
With Raiden (someone appealing to women), instead of Snake, as the main character, we will have a
character in which women can more easily empathize. He is the antithesis of the older, hard-boiled image
of Snake
.
Story
Having an iconic female character (Fortune), like in the previous game, as well as an ordinary woman
involved with the main character, will add both a realistic and romantic element to the game.

‘The 21st century will be the age of women, when women will protect men’
Kojima

MGS2 is something you just can't miss. I haven't played Killer7 though, so no comment on that.

Get both. I got MGS2 for $7 used at a local Blockbuster, and that was a while ago. Killer7 is about $20 on the Gamecube (saw it at Target).

Well, I got one of the games today. The game that I got was Killer 7, mostly because I couldn't find MGS2. I could have probably found it if my mom let us take the car and we went somewhere besides the mall. The game stores at the mall teh sucks. But Killer 7 is actually really sexy. It's defenitely brutal, and different; not like most games. The gameplay is too hard to explain, but oh so sexy. If I can beat it by next week, I'll defenitely MAKE my mom give us the car so I can search for MGS2.

To tell you the truth, if I picked up the game 2 years and played it, I think I would have hated it. I doubt any casual would play the game, because of the weird/creative gameplay and controls. There's a lot of puzzle solving, like RE in it's prime. The enemies are weird though, and hard to explain. I defenitely reccomend the game, especially seeing as how it's only like $10 new.

Killer7 is weird, and with most people they either love it or hate it.  The gameplay is very bare-bones and repetitive, while the story is beyond complex.  (Which is pretty much the complete opposite of what you'd expect from a video game, and I kinda think that was the point of the game).  Its all about the concept and style behind the game, which I happen to find very cool.  Just don't expect to understand the story right away, if you play it.  :P

I looked up killer 7 on Wiki to find out a little more about it. It seems they have a comic book out for it right now...do you think that dulges into the story established in the game? I might go pick them up either way, along with my plans for buying the new Blade comib books.

My copy of the game came with the first issue of the comic book (since I pre-ordered), and its pretty much exactly the same as the opening sequence of game.  So I'd guess that it follows the game's storyline for the rest of the series.

At the end of the instruction booklet it shows an advertisement for the comic book. I gotta check out the price of them on the website it gives, because I'm kind broke for the moment >.>
