Heh, it almost looks like a JRPG developer's take on KotOR's battle system, pseudo-real-time and able to switch between characters. My one qualm is that White Knight still doesn't seem to take risks plot-wise. It's very cliched. It's still about a young boy from a village (cliche #1) with his childhood friend of the opposite sex, no less! (cliche #2) who somehow acquires a wondrous weapon (a mecha; cliche #3) and must go on a quest. Accompanying him is a wizened old mentor (cliche #4), and the foot soldiers of their enemy are apparently clad in black armor (cliche #5). The gameplay looks top-notch, but I really wish it didn't pack soooo many cliches into one package. My chosen RPGs of the next generation: #1 is still Lost Odyssey. The plot concept is still far cooler than any other RPG that's yet been announced. The reason why I still place Lost Odyssey above all of the other RPGs is because its plot appears to be intensely personal, character-driven rather than event-driven. It's not based on a quest for lost treasure or for vengeance or any of that BS. It's about an unwilling immortal and about his experiences and how it affects him through the centuries. #2 is Mass Effect, again because of plot, and also for the traditional WRPG interactivity. Probably the most epic plot concept of any RPG announced so far. It sounds almost like a David Brin scifi epic. #3 is now White Knight, formerly the spot of Final Fantasy XIII. I'm a little sick of the whole "sword-wielding mecha" plot device (yeah, yeah, it's supposed to be a knight, but let's face it, it's really a mecha, like in Escaflowne).

Game seems very impressive and that battle system was interesting. I'm liking what I saw, backgrounds look great and character models look good, but could still improve a bit. Overall I'm liking it. Colour me impressed.

anyway, White Knight, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Mass Effect, FFXIII, and FFXIIIVS look like my next 6 RPGs

exept for possibly Dragon Age, NWN 2, and Bioshock.

and A.S.H. OK. 10 RPGs then. The buck stops there.

EDIT: Darn, I forgot about Eternal Sonata and Super Paper Mario. Oh my poor wallet.
