I might consider it when i get my one xl, My desire hd rooted was one of the best things i could have done, i got the latest sense and android software, conserved more battery and able to back up my data. I returned the one x so i am stuck with hell on earth known as WP7. if i could root it and put android on it, id do it in a heart beat.mystic_knightYou werent happy with battery life of one X?
You werent happy with battery life of one X? It was pretty bad. thats the only thing i hold against that amazing phone... i hope HTC release a patch to help battery life. Honestly i don't have faith in Nvidia right now. When you cant prioritise a battery as a main issue its neglecting the essence of what a phone is meant to do.[QUOTE="mystic_knight"]I might consider it when i get my one xl, My desire hd rooted was one of the best things i could have done, i got the latest sense and android software, conserved more battery and able to back up my data. The one X is pretty light and thin, there is enough room for a much bigger battery.

The one xl has the same battery yet it out performs it by a fair margin. It is Nvidias lacking of attention to reduce voltage for mobile SOC's and making a useless companions core which does nothing. Samsung will out perform in battery tests due to its 32nm SoC, Qualcomm with LTE enabled lasts longer than the tegra 3.It was pretty bad. thats the only thing i hold against that amazing phone... i hope HTC release a patch to help battery life. yeah but there is to much of a make the thinnest phone battle going on for that to happen. I'd love a 20-25mm phone with a massive battery over these thin phone with small batteries, plus the one s has a much smaller battery yet last much much longer. The tegra 3 is not said to be good for batteries.I rooted my Captivate last week. Went from official 2.3 to SlimICS. So much faster, but I lost nearly all of my contacts in the process of upgrading. (Google's automatic backup didn't save anything, and I made sure to save them all to the SIM card before switching, but apparently they didn't save.)
I mainly did it because the default Bluetooth kernal for the Captivate was incompatible with Sixaxis Controller so I couldn't use my DS3 with my phone to play games. AT&T was very restrictive with the phone and it's capabilities as well. Didn't expect it to receive such a speed boost though. It feels brand new again! It's been difficult to readjust to all the new things and apps. Also no Wi-Fi tethering app would work with 2.3 on my Cappy, but with SlimICS it has a built in one that work flawlessly!
Yup, got sick of waiting for my provider to finish packing the ICS update with bloatware so rooted and installed it myself bloatware free. I've since updated to a custom rom which is faster and has better battery life but crashes more often.
Same with me. Nexus S FTW. :)I did for a time to play around with different ROM's, but having a Nexus Sguaranteed me at least an ICS update so I eventually just waited until the leaked ICS build, that wasn't pulled back by Google. Haven't rooted since because I really have no need to.

Same with me. Nexus S FTW. :) :P I would never get a nexus for the exact same reason. It stops you from exploring, Honestly rooting your phone and trying other UI's is always nice, it gives the false sense of having a completely new phone every time. I kinda like that.[QUOTE="Mozuckint"]

Hmm stock ICS can do the same thing. Well I meant the dock folders but yes it is a ics thing but could be really useful. Android has so many things you don't find for ages, it's awesome when you find them.[QUOTE="imprezawrx500"] wow the new sense has folders that is awesome all these things I keep finding. Gambler_3

Maybe one day I would want to do more with my phone and in that case having a nexus is still the great thing. I just didnt want to buy a phone that would force me to root like if I had galaxy S I couldnt have just sat on GB for too long knowing that ICS is never coming. :(
I mean there is sooo much customization I can still do without rooting. I am running apex launcher which brings lots of features over stock ICS launcher and runs just as smooth. I have also changed my lockscreen. Android FTW. :)

It does have good support but when you always get the latest android software, the users generally rely on that for firmware updates... Nexus users are probably the least likely to put custom roms.[QUOTE="Gambler_3"]But if you want to explore then once again nexus has as good a dev support as it gets.[QUOTE="mystic_knight"] :P I would never get a nexus for the exact same reason. Nexus users are probably the least likely to put custom roms.I dunno nexus doesnt have mass popularity you wont find many tech noobs with a nexus who are the most likely to never root. The development scene of the nexus is huge since it is a google phone and apparently the easiest to develop for. When you have official firmware of the latest version then custom roms are built on that version which provides high stability compared to custom roms that are ports. Basically building an ICS custom rom is easier and faster than if one were to make one for galaxy S or desire HD since they dont have official firmware.
There are many users at xda who wont even bother with stock rom since they say the custom roms built on the stock are just as stable with more customization obviously. I perhaps just havent broken "into" the tweaking my phone thing I suppose. :P
My ZTE Blade had crap software stuck on it so i rooted to remove it.
Later on I was fed up of 2.1 so I now use CM7, it's like having a new phone.
Yes, though the Galaxy Nexus is the only phone out where I don't need to. The only reason I rooted is to add a search key and make the soft keys ICS blue. Everything else is stock. Stock 4.0 is really nice, and I absolutely could use it without rooting. It isn't like the Fascinate where TouchWiz was so god-awful that I would've thrown my phone against a brick wall if I couldn't root it.
Yeah - oddly, I didn't bother to root my Galaxy Nexus this time around. I did get a Kindle Fire and promptly rooted + ICS'd it, though, and kind of love the little thing.Yes, though the Galaxy Nexus is the only phone out where I don't need to. go launcher is also great if you want lots of customisation and I like it better than the others I've tried, has heaps of widgets too if your into those and they run much better than sense widgets. If you want a really fast launcher and like the look of windows phone, launcher 7 is awesome. It is so simple yet does every so well.If you are on ICS then apex launcher will give you the ICS look.
If you are on GB then ADW launcher is the best.

Yes I have used go launcher and it's really good with lots of themes available probably the most for any launcher. However customizing it too much can have performance issues.
I tried apex launcher when go launcher ics theme failed to replicate the real look of stock ICS which I so love. Apex launcher is just as customizable minus the themes and widgets, it's the best launcher if one wants the stock ICS look with lots and lots of options that the google launcher doesnt give.
And I really want to try the launcher 7, will do soon.
Yup I got tired of waiting for Google to release ICS for the GSM Nexus S. I tried a few different ROMs before I settled with cyanogenmod 9.

What impresses me more is most people here are doing it because the companies can be bother to make their phones as good as they can be.Kane04No I didnt root because of that but due to the more advanced permissions that can be given to apps. A rooted android phone is much less secure than a non-rooted one thats why it's something you have to do and wont be done for you.
