iPhone 4s still worth getting?

I am considering getting an iPhone 4s as a $100 smartphone seems fine to me as I really don't play many games (but that may change with iOS) and I mostly just browse the internet or check my email. I am upgrading from an HTC Evo 4g and I was just wondering if the iPhone 4s is still worth getting. I really don't care much for the bigger screen (both will be a downsize from my current phone anyway) as I am more worried about battery life and CPU speed. If I get a iPhone 4s now, would I have issues 2 years down the road because the newest iOS version is simply too much for the iPhone 4s' CPU? Also, how is the battery life on the iPhone 4s. I remember rumors that it was rather bad, but that was a long while back when it first came out.

Never buy a cheap smartphone. You'll be stuck with it for 2 years and the cost will be pretty much the same because the data costs that same. Unless your carrier charges extra for LTE, in which case go ahead and get the 4S.

Just get the 5. It'd resell better down the road.

As I said above, the reason I am even considering an iPhone 4S is because it is $100 on contract. If it wasn't for that, I would be getting a Samsung GS3 (as it is a very nice phone). I just find the iPhone 5 to rather lackluster relative to Android phones in the $200 (on contract) range, but at the $100 range, the iPhone 4S appears to be the one to beat. PEELEDbanana

You shouldn't have any issues with the iPhone 4S when it comes to support, Apple has quite the number of devices using the A5.

I don't know Sprint's pricing or how many years the contract is (assuming 2 years?), but here in Canada with Rogers, the iPhone 4S is $80 (w/ 3yr), the Galaxy S3 is $160 (w/ 3yr) and the iPhone 5 is $180 (w/ 3yr).

To my surprise the new LG Optimus G is only $130 (w/ 3yr), so that might be an option and at the same time is significantly better than the GS3 (I don't know Sprint's pricing, but if there is any indication from Rogers' the Optimus G should be less than the GS3). There is also the Nexus 4 coming in the next few weeks, but I don't know pricing on that (same hardware as the Optimus G, but using software direct from Google). If you do consider another Android phone, at this point the GS3 would be a waste, unless there was a reasonable price drop.

^ Just to add to my last post, turns out the Nexus 4 will cost $299 (8GB) and $349 (16GB). I don't know the carrier pricing yet.

Nothing at all wrong with the 4s. A half inch of screen isn't enough to make me want to break my contract for a 5.

I'd say it is definitely worth getting.
