Burress pleads guilty in weapons case, accepts 2-year prison sentence

NEW YORK -- Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress pleaded guilty to a weapons charge and agreed to a two-year prison term for accidentally shooting himself at a Manhattan nightclub.

Burress pleaded guilty Thursday morning to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a lesser charge than he initially faced. Under a plea agreement, he agreed to a two-year prison sentence and two years of supervised release.

Burress was indicted earlier this month on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment. He faced a minimum sentence of 3 1/2 years if convicted at a trial.

Burress' sentencing is set for Sept. 22.

Really? He did just turn 32 so when he gets out in 2011, he'll be 34 which I know isn't young. However he is a big receiver and if he can stay in shape over that time, I could see a team, like the Bengals for instance, take a chance on him.

wait a min, didnt plax get offered 3 month sentence out in 2 months and around 1500 hours of community service and turned it down back about 3-4 months ago?

Drunk driving just isn't punished like it should be which is really dumb.  Stallworthless should have had at least two years and Plax should have had maybe 2-4 months in my opinion because I believe he did not have a license for the gun.

comparing stallworth and burres cases are pointless because both have different laws and action that contibuted to both cases,you just cant compare them

Main problem for Plax was not having that gun registered.

I heard that in the new york area, they take that very seriously anyone can do time.

New York has extremely strict rules on gun charges and he got the minimum penalty.

Good, they (ESPN) should hopefully be done with this.
