While doing some research for today's trivia game, I began to think about career stats, specifically why only regular season games count toward those stats. And I suddenly realized that I do not like this current system and I want them to count.

I don't want to get too much into my reasons just yet, mostly because I have to use the restroom. So I propose the question to you all: should stats accumulated in the playoffs count toward career numbers? Try to be specific and back up your claims.

I think so. Look at my theory. The stats you accumulate in the regular season are done so in hope of making the playoffs. And so making the playoffs it is like earning the right to play extra games in hopes of making the Super Bowl and winning it.

In the playoffs it is no cake walk. The game becomes more intense, and some players actually play better in that situation, *cough* Brady *cough*. So it is not like the stats are tainted or anything.

It is like Pre-season, the reason we dont count those towards Career stats is because the intensity of the game is pretty much lacking, oppose to the playoffs it is skyrocketed compared to the regular season. So why not count them towards career stats, it is CAREER stats not, CAREER REGULAR SEASON stats. (That was a fun CAPS session lol :) )

Making the playoffs is a team effort. You cant penalize individuals for not making the playoffs. Just look at guys like Barry Sanders. It wouldnt be fair to them.

No they shouldn't count, it would allow more raw statistics to be accumulated for players who often made it to the playoffs and as well in most cases (specifically for Offensive players) would weaken their statistics since the players (offenses and more importantly defenses) are better.

Revan and TTBH make excellent points, and I agree with them.

They count anyways. When people talk about all time greats and HOF candidates they bring up playoff stats. I see no difference in the long run.

I guess we're interpreting wally's question differently. What I thought he was asking is: should playoffs stats be added to regular season stats for records and such, whereas you are bring up that they count but in a different category

I know what Wally ask. My point is once again, they count somehow. I am tryign to say the aren't worthless stats. They do matter. Yeah Wally wants them to be added together and I say no to be on topic. It is a 16 game season. Records will be broken like nothing. Postseason records, would be worthless. What happens when Goodell adds more games? Say hello to 2000 yard RB's at a high rate. F*** you Wally, I hate your idea.

No. Past players would have their career stats increase as well. The records would increase as well.

So we would have to rewrite records? For example Jamal Lewis would fall to 3rd on the most rushing yards in a season and Barry Sanders would move up to 2nd. So in some cases someone who holds the record, will now lose the record because his team didn't make the playoffs that year and the guy who was in 2nd added 50 yards in a WC game. Horrible idea.

I don't think it would be that good, like I read in the other posts, that everyone that has played in Playoffs in the past would be added too, that could really screw up, some other players stats, that are playing.
