For most teams, its officially midseason and here's how the current playoff settings look...

My reaction:
NFC
The Cowboys and Packers have pretty much held onto the top two spots for the entire season thus far but they have a couple teams knipping at the heels and coincidentally from the same divisions. The Giants and Lions are closing in on the Cowboys and Pack and could make an interesting run. As some of you might have noticed, the Lions have jumped the Giants for the #5 spot. The reason for this is that the Lions have a better divisional record giving them the tiebreaker. Don't worry Giants fans. If you both have the same record on November 18, you'll get your shot at the Lions since they are scheduled to play each other this year. As of right now, the teams currently #1, #2, #5, and #6 are solid locks for the playoffs. As for the #3 and #4 teams, its still up for grabs. The Bucs climb in this week with a win and a Carolina loss and currently hold a half game lead over the Panthers. The Seahawks despite losing, are still the anchor of the West with a one game lead over Arizona. Who would have thought I would have been putting New Orleans in the playoff mix after their horrendous start to the season.

AFC
Well, I can honestly that not much has changed this week. In fact, all the playoff spots in the AFC are in the exact same positions as they were last week. However, Jacksonville should be feeling a little nervous right now. With the Cleveland Steamer (I know, not real cla$$y) coming in quick, we could see a changing of the guard next week if Jacksonville isn't able to win. As for the top seeds...I really don't foresee any movement unless San Diego can pull off a miracle and upset Indy next week. That would put Pittsburg in the #2 spot if they win next week.

Yes, that could make the playoff scenarios interesting. I hope the Giants win because that would put the Pack in first if they win against the Vikings.

Depending on what type of push, if any, teams from the South Divisions in both Conferences make down the stretch, this could be one of those rare years when a Division winner with a lesser record makes the playoffs over a 2nd, or even 3rd, place finisher's record from another Division.

I would cite examples, but I won't out of respect that a certain individual in the Union upon reading them, would then lose control of his bowels, and will need a parent to change him. :D

That's what's going to happen in the NFC West to NFC East this year. The Redskins won't make the playoffs but they will finish with a record better than the Seahawks (at least in my opinion).
