2008 Will be the Wii's year.

We're in Q2 of this year, and we have a good idea of what games will come out by the end of '07, which will probably include some of Ninty's blockbusters (Smash Bros, SMG, Mp3) although probably not at the same time.

But based on recent news that the almighty Wii has cracked 6.5 million units (wow) expect an influx of third party support, and even more games by first and second party devs.

The way I see it is that by 2008 dev's will be familiar with the Wii dev kit and controls. And will want to jump on the bandwagon for the easy to develop for console, which happens to be cheaper to develop for.

So I'm expecting a full announcement of new games slated for '08 at some point here.  Also taking into account Matt at IGN who says big things are coming for the Wii... '08 seems like it'll be time for the Wii to shine (even more than it is already)

though this sounds like great news for the wii, get ready for a whole slew of crappy third party games just because the wii is so cheap and easy to develop for.... its going to end up just like the ps2 with lots of great games, but also with a huge load of crappy cheap ones pandaman37

I think that by 2008 or before Wii will overcome xbox 360 sales.Online will be in a lot of games.Developers already are starting to realize the power of wii to the masses and I am certain we can be sure that wii will not share gamecube's fate.Long awaited games will arrive in or before 2008 so nintendo can and will fight for the first place. heroofwinds1

Exactly.  I think Ninty one way or another is going to do everything humanly possible to steal that first place.  There is no question in my mind.   They were going in the opposite direction to expand gaming, which they are, but at the same time I know that Reggie wouldn't mind doing a little victory dance infront of Sony and MS if Ninty won this gen.

And yes, we will get a bunch of third party crap like the PS2.  But hopefully a couple gems will come out..All it takes it 1 or 2 stellar third party games to make the Wii well rounded.

victory dance Lol! honestly all the consoles this gen are like must have's, last gen you could have 1 system and be okay, now all systems have something different and great to offer.

If SSBB, Prime 3 and Galaxy all release in the same year then no - 2007 owns to much.

It's practically confirmed through that Mario Kart will appear in 2008, along with any delayed 2007 projects, a Star Wars game and Sadness.

I predict a Starfox, Pikmin or F-Zero to be announced in 2008. Either way, I can't wait to see how things turn out.ShakeNBake1491

Those titles are inevitable along with Mario Kart, but I'm expecting news about the latest Zelda, a few Wii titles... like Wii Sports 2, maybe, and at least 2 or 3 huge exclusive 3rd party games.  I'm also predicting a Donkey Kong platformer to be announced next year, too... no bongos needed.

I have no faith games for the Wii will be any better than they are now. Ive seen no progress in games that use the Wii's controller. I must be the only one who thinks the mechanics for the remote are so poor that it makes it imposable to program games that would require precise movements but I do. Every game Ive played has issues with this. I rent every game that we can rent and have a good number of them and I purchased a number of titles but so far its just falling short of the mark. My kids like it though so guess if the four and ten year old will play it its not a total loss.quistoman

that's why a lot of people are saying the wii's controller will either make it or break it. as of now the controls are fine but later on, yes the games will have to be more responsive and if they aren't than that's seriously gonna hurt it

i must be the only wii owner whose controller is 100% responsive. ive played almost every game out and have no problems what so ever. the wii is awesome.ugotplayed64

NO you just lie. I have three friends that have the same issues its not that mine is different than yours, its that I'm not a fanboy and would like Nintendo to deliver what they advertised.

If you think the games out now are any kind of display of what the Wii can do and you don't think it'll get better, then you might as well sell your Wii.

The devs got the new kit less than a year ago, do you expect great games to be made in a single year?  On a completely new form of playing?  You'd have to be insane.  I'm not defending the developers for their crummy ports, but I wasn't expecting much out of the gate.  End of '07 and '08 will have a fluctuation of great games with a lot of promise.  You can't just denounce the system just cause...

I mean take for example the 360.  It took a year for a truly great game to come out, which was followed by other great games, and that trend continues to follow.  Sure a lot of crap comes with it, but it took a year to get off the ground.

Give the Wii some time.  But if you honestly think that whats out now, aside from Zelda and Paper Mario is any inclination of how games will always be, then quite frankily sir, you've completely lost your mind.

At first i was extremly happy with the upcoming games for '07, but what i really need to know is if the wii will be as involved with online multiplayer as the xbox 360 and ps3, yes i have heard of online games such as pokemon battle revolution and battalion wars two, but will the wii have its trademark online games such as halo for xbox and socom for ps2? i hope soJMart0492

I`d have to say Brawl will be Wii`s best online. But it wont seem right not being able to talk smack.
