I was hoping for more first party games at launch...and the only "3rd party" one I would really want is Professor layton, maybe resident evil. Also considering that some of the 3DS features wont be available at launch is a downer...maybe I should just wait and instead of buying a 3DS for the drive on vacation just buy Dragon Quest IX or something. Thoughts?

I honestly don't think it's worth $250 at launch, especially given that it's a portable gaming system. Personally I just can't justify paying $250 for a portable gaming system that always end up never getting as much attention from me as my home consoles do. Also in my opinoin the launch lineup is pretty weak. The games I'm interested in are coming at a later date such as Ocarina of Time, Starfox 64, and Mario Kart 3DS. I'm personally going to wait for the eventual 3DS lite along with a price drop.

Not enough launch games to make it worth it. Nintendo's games amount to two tech demos and their previous game + cats in 3D, and the third party titles aren't really spectacular. I'll probably consider it once Ocarina of Time and Paper Mario and Kid Icarus come out.

You really think there will be a price drop? The orginal DS only went up in price as new models came out.

if your not happy with the current line-up TC then save your cash until the line-up is to your satisfaction. at the end of the day the 3DS is about games. if you dont like the games that will be available around launch then whats the point in getting it?

Well, obviously if the launch titles don't appeal to you then there's less incentive to be an early adopter. Speaking personally, I'm as much interested in the hardware as I am the games, so I'd be buying the 3DS day one even if the launch titles didn't appeal me.

I disagree, if you have a ds already, why pay 250 to play ds games again? that's stupid and a waste of money imo, it's not going to be sold out for years and you will be able to get it in months, nintendo said they reason why it didn't come out last year was because they didn't have enough ready, they are going to keep it as stocked as possible, paying 250 for it when it has no games that interest you is a waste of money, i personally I will wait until something comes out that I want for it.

I'm talking about the price drop that should occur when the 3DS lite comes out. Nintendo will probably price drop this 3DS once they come out with a 3DS lite or just stop producing them before the 3DS lite comes out. Either way I'm interested in a 3DS lite, not a price drop on this 3DS. The battery life is supposed to be pretty horrible on the 3DS so I'll wait for the 3DS lite which will have better battery life and probably a couple of other minor bells and whistles. It's inevitable that a 3DS lite will come out, I mean it's Nintendo were talking about here.

No it's not, it's not even second-party. Professor Layton is made by Level-5 who are third party developers. They stick to the DS because that was what made them the huge success they are.

Is it worth it? depends on what you like for games, but for me I am still contemplating. If I didnt have a limited amount of money and other stuff I want and need I would buy it on launch no doubt, but I am considering waiting a few months or something. I am looking forward to some third party games, but even those are not at launch. I really want Paper Mario and Mario kart though :P. I would say one of the better looking (maybe it will suck) launch titles is Samurai Warriors. I hope its good.

If you feel it's not worth it right now, just wait. Wouldn't want you to have buyer's remorse. The regular DS is still a great system with many games in its back catalog, and I'm sure many more fun games ahead. I'd go for Dragon Quest 9 if you want to wait a while on the 3DS. Do what you know is best for you.

I just preordered on amazon but the more i look, the more iffy i get. But lucky for me, i can cancel anytime :P

I just want to play it and try it out, but i am also aware of the newer models that will come out, cause that's just how handhelds are done. But, if i can get it early, and im not strapped for cash, i can squeeze every once out of it and then get the third model when it comes out :P

Same here. Although the 3DS doesn't intrest me a bit, I'd wait for a Boxing Day sale or something and a Lite version (should one ever come out)

I'm starting to feel the same way..

I mean, the console looks great and the Launch Titles (although bad) have at least a few I'd get. Yet..I'm having doubts about getting it now instead of later. :?

I don't want a repeat of the Wii launch where you couldn't find one for months, but 250$ is a lot of money, plus games it might be nearing 300$..

I don't plan on picking up it day one. There's not enough games at launch that interest me, though its not like I would have enough money to buy more than two titles anyways. I just think its not worth the pain of searching for one at launch....

the thing is that the lite came out 2 years after the original ds. However, i dont remember how hyped the DS was because the psp was coming out around the same time as well. Anyway, if the 3DS lite comes out 2 years later, i dont mind getting the 3DS at launch cause 2 years is a decent amount of time. if only there was a surefire way to tell :(

Bringing out a second model is done to recreate interest in the system. Im not sure how the 3DS is gonna go in terms of popularity. If i remember correctly, the DS was sort of a bust until a while after it launched when it got a huge influx of games and really appealed to the average person. Since the 3DS is already establishing itself (thanks to having a true predecessor), i am curious to see how long it lasts before a second model comes out to boost sales.

This isn't a DS. Its a Nintendo 3DS.

Just as the Game Boy Advance wasn't a Game Boy.

What I'm saying is its a new console. And if you've read any previews of games on the 3DS you'd know people are saying it enhances it a lot (Kid Icarus, Zelda, etc)

Also, Avatar (while I haven't seen it at all) is supposed to be great 3D. Something about fairies and dust floating around in 3D like they are in front of you.

But I'd understand if you've researched it and don't find all the new features, new hardware, and new software to be enticing. Sometimes things just don't rub ya the right way, it happens.

I'm giddy with excitement however.

It depends on how well it sells

The DS wasn't outselling the PSP by much until the DS Lite came out, at a $20 lower price

The DSi didn't come out until 2008 saw the beginning of DS sales declines in Japan

So as long as the sales are high, there will not be a revision, they'd be planning it, but it won't come out until nessecary and ultimately the consumers decided that

You have to remember what a radical and unproven concept the DS was at the time with its dual display and touchscreen. Folks had a lot of trouble even visualizing how games would play on such a device, and developers seemed wary of embracing it, so it did have a fairly slow rollout. However, the 3DS is essentially an extension of a proven platform, and Nintendo as a company is enjoying a new surgh of popularity, so the 3DS is not going to have the same growing pains as its predecessor.

They said the same thing for the Wii. Look what happened. Darn thing flew off the shelves. I said to buy a 3DS so you have the system and then buy the games you want when the become available. Until then the 3DS is BC with DS stuff and people still are playing DS titles to hold em over.

Not saying you are wrong, since you are entitled to what you buy. :)

Worth it at launch or not? If you ask me that's a stupid question. Are you planing are getting one or not? If you are going to get one why would get wait? There my be a shortage, then you are waiting around in lines or paying jacked up prices online. I personally have already pre-ordered one, yet I'm not getting any of the launch games. In fact I may not get any 3DS games until BlazBlue, which still doesn't have a release date, I'm just making sure I have the system when I want it.
