Why can't anyone check the news?
in Japan and Europe this month the DSi XL and DSi are getting price drops, and the DS Lite is no longer being shipped to retailers
DSi is going to $129 roughly, and XL could be going to either $149 or $169
A north american price drop hasn't been announced yet, and may be delayed as long as possible as anyone with a brain knows that North America always gets new colors, new bundles, price drops last since both the Wii and DS have had more of a drop off in sales in Japan and Europe than North America, where sales have always been healthy, so a month may go by, maybe two, but rest assured as Nintendo prepares for 3DS launch it will drop the DSi/XL price just like those other two regions
So the 3DS for $169-$199 is very reasonable, i doubt it exceeds $199, the thing has 10 year old GameCube-esque tech in it, 320x240/800x240 screens
and guys another thing
we all feared the 3DS would be over $200 for one reason, the fact that one 3D LCD screen cost roughly $20-$25 to put into a handheld, BUT a normal ds lcd screen only costs around $10-$15 towards each units overall cost
We thought it would have TWO 3d screens, thus the screens alone couldve cost $40-$50 but no, only one screen is 3d thus reducing our previously thought cost of the unit
So all in all, Nintendo may only spend $30-$40 on the 3DS's two screens altogether
And we're talking it probably has a 400-500Mhz CPU, 64MB-128MB RAM and like 1-4GB flash storage, and Wireless B/G so it'll maybe even be profitable at $149.99, we don't know but costs just went down with only one 3d screen
