i finally bought a couple titles..links awakening dx and super mario land.

they both have a bit of that blurry look that ds games have...HOWEVER

links awakening:

i compared links awakening to my original cartridge played on a gba sp With backlight to the VC version...the VC version looked brighter and with slightly more detail..even with the blur. also the screen size is bigger on 3ds...sure you can go full screen on gba sp but then looks really stretched.
also the sound is better on 3ds..sounded louder and better than my gba sp.
overall playing this on 3ds felt more fun than the gba sp.

super mario land:

same for gameboy games..on gba sp i noticed gameboy games looked a lot darker...again 3ds is slightly blurry but much brighter which lets you see more detail in the games.
also the fact that you have restore points is a big plus.

overall i feel much more enjoyment and details playing these on 3ds compared to gba sp..the circle pad works maybe better than the dpad too.
if only 3ds didnt have the blurry thing then it would be EPIC.

what did you guys notice or think?

Oh cool I didn't even know the 3DS had a virtual console thing. That makes me want to go get one now. I can't wait to play Wario Land & Rampage 2 again.

You're gonna have to wait for them to release them. There are a whopping 5 games on the 3DS VC, all GB games. Link is awesome, but the rest are just junk. You heard me, Mario Land is JUNK. I want color games on my $250 console, not crap people play on their dang cell phones.

dslite doesnt play gameboy color or gameboy games..how could you use it?

its confirmed ds games look only slightly blurry on 3ds...GB and GBC also look slightly that way but still better than the original cartridges.

I think they need to release Wario Land for the Virtual Boy and other Virtual Boy games for the Nintendo 3DS virtual console, and make them in real color instead of just black and red (but still give the option to keep them in black and red.) :]

The DS original doesn't play GB and GB Color games either. Only GBA.

Doesn't that just make it tiny? I haven't tried it with VC games but it's pretty bad playing DS games.

Yes, it makes it way too tiny, especially with games with small sprites like Donkey Kong (which is the only VC game I downloaded so far). It is kind of a cool effect but I prefer just playing with the regular screen size.

i was trying to point out how neat it is with the gameboy background. maybe that just works with link's awakening?

No, it works with all Gameboy games. As for the guy slating black and white video games, it doesn't sound like you're dismissing something you've not played. Whilst the visuals aren't great, they do have a retro charm and there are some decent games available. Donkey Kong being quite an under-rated title going by some of the opinions on here.

I didn't buy my 3DS for decent games. Nintendo has the biggest console library of timeless cl@ssic games. Undisputable Fact. 30 years, 7 consoles (8 counting VB.) Of those hundreds of wonderful games, they've released 2. Kirby and Link. 3DS is not a cell phone where I'd settle for throwaway crap, its a Nintendo console. I expect better from them, not their throwaway junk that I wouldn't have bought back in 86, let alone 2011.

Each to their own I guess, but just because they're black and white and 25 years old, doesn't make them rubbish or forgetful. Still sounds like you've generalising, and that you've never played them or you refuse to give them a chance because of their age. If you are, its your loss really.

I don't think I'm generalizing. The games suck save for Link and Kirby. I don't care if a game is black and white, I care if they are good. Nintendo has much better gameboy games that they are not giving us. I've played them, I've got a red gameboy with a duct taped on battery cover in a box somewhere back home that I've had since a Christmas like 20 years ago. Your ruby red tinted aviators seem to be getting in the way of your objectivity here. I wouldn't have bought any of these games even back then. Dude, where the heck is Dr. Mario? This is the dreggs of Nintendo. They're ok. Time wasters at best. Maybe you are cool with that? There are way too many excellent games out there to waste time on these. Hopefully Kirby being released is a sign of some change in their VC choices.

I'll admit there are some average games on there, but nothing rubbish or forgetful. Even Alleyway and Tennis were good, if a little primitive.
