instead of only imitating real instruments, wouldn't it be pretty cool if they devoted one of the many "areas" in the music / game program to a completely "new vitual instrument"? so that in example the buttons and the d-pad on the remote became buttons on this "instrument" and that it also changed tone simply by moving it, i mean, i guess somewhere in the area of a trombone, but with a lot more variety (tilt it, at what angle etc. etc.), and maybe it should be more comparable to a midi-synth since maybe u should be able to change the "sound bank" on it as well :)

hm.. another thing, is the people behind that puzzle game from nintendo, that game that's similar to meteos, are those people color blind? i would never buy that game when it came out, lol

planet puzzle league

anyways.. another thing with that virtual instrument

another reason why it would be neat to call it a virtual instrument even though it maybe more resembles a midi-synth, would be due to the fact that it would have a virtual representation on the tv.. now of course that virtual representation could be something electronic looking, like a midi-synth, but im talking about making something that looked like an old brass instrument, that would be very neat..

anyways, the deal here would also be that u could record melodies with different sounds on that instrument, and also use the virtual drums to record a drumloop, or drum arrangement

in other words, u, the player, would play all these virtual instruments that u recorded.. pretty neat, using a very simple garage band interface maybe

and the explanation why ud go for a "new instrument" is simply because no other instrument i know of at least, functions this way, as in, emitting sound just by moving it slightly any way, or tilting it, and probably there'd need to be some kind of settings for this "vr instrument", such as how sensitive (tonal range) it should be to movement

the fun thing is that people who'd be good at playing it from the get go would probably be acrobatic people, they would probably be best at doing more difficult feats, haha... 8-(

but no one likes this idea i guess

i understand what he is saying it is a sweet idea they should make a game like Fruity loopz were u have the sound bank of midi files like drums base line etc etc and the wii remote to control it all i think this is a very good idea doubt it will happwn low as it isint every1's cup of tea

glad somebody got it

and it's a very simple idea:

make music with remote

that's it...

don't know if it's right to call it a vr instrument... i mean, an electric guitar needs an amplifier, the remote needs a tv...

the only reason ud put a 3d model of an "instrument" on the tv screen would be for fun, nothing more, thus, u could of course do without it, and just show a settings screen instead, while playing...

of course, now if u have a 3d model on the tv screen ud see where in "space" the instrument was, and u could make the instrument interact with the "space"... such as having water on one part of the 3d space, and whenever the instrument moved over to where the water was the sound would get a "water effect" or whatever... so not only would the instrument make sounds of its own depending on where it was, but ud also have effects thrown in that where scattered around the 3d space... of course.... this would only be a headache for a person trying to make a simple melody... so maybe this idea would be better suited for some kind of game instead... or something

it's all about having different parameters to play around with

only a question of how far u wanna take it, and in what direction

i was thinking about what that loco roco creator was saying about the eyetoy being a better choise over the wii remote, because it wasn't bound to a physical device, which made it more flexible, or i think, he said something like that...

but really... sometimes u want a physical device, with buttons on it...

i mean, i guess the eyetoy could pretend that u where pushing a button simply by registering the users movement with his/her fingers... but then ud need to hold something between ure hand to ease the orientation, and ud need to have placed something on this piece of wood, or whatever it would be, to make u feel where the buttons where, and somehow that just misses the point really...

and as for this music area for wii music, well, that would be very uncomfortable without a physical device, i mean, since it's already such a difficult action to get a grip of... i mean, in all honesty it might just be too difficult as it is...

and what's the point of having a program that let's u make music using a 3d interface? can u even translate music production into  3d? i mean in one very basic way u could, like say, having the tone change if u went from the left of the screen to the right, and then have depth (echo, delay) if u moved the remote further away from u or closer to u. but then the whole experience would be pretty gimmicky... and another thing that would also be gimmicky would be to add tonal parts the further away u put the remote... but on the other hand, simply as a tool to remix / edit an already recorded melody it would of course be very intuitive, and make the process a breeze, which it already is with computers these days...

but back to the question: what's the point with a 3d interface for production of the core melody? sure, one could argue that the core melody relies on harmony or/and a bass line as well, but we're not going to be able to add on a bass line while simultaneously recording the core melody.. that ain't happening, not two melodies at the same time, lol, but maybe harmony... yes, a very rudimentary harmony could be arranged at the same time as u recorded the core melody, but it would be too simple to really bother mentioning, so again, how can u make recording a core melody more intuitive using a 3d interface?

i don't know, but it would make everything different. and u could probably just create ure own "3d space" to create melodies with, and sort of like "place" different tones at different locations on the screen, maybe as a pattern, so that the "3d space" maybe would look like a cake with different tone pieces in it... but again, all of this could be done using a 2d interface as well, so what's the point with things like depth? well, going one octave higher up would simply be done by lifting the remote higher up while being in the same "cake piece" all the while, so i guess u could make some things "feel" a bit more natural maybe...

but i don't know

This is actually a very good idea.
Could you imagine bands on stage playing with Wiimotes :P

haha.. lol, yeah that would be funny, they'd do like a sword fight but with the remotes instead, and the "music" that would be the result of this fight would be so awful that people would flee from the scene, lol

but why aren't we seeing stuff like this on the wii?

It's definitely a very interesting idea, the way you describe it makes me imagine an electro-theremin(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electro-theremin) that is based more on the scale, speed and shape of the movements you make. I saw an interesting thing on "The Gadget Show" where the presenter showed how some people have linked the parameter controls on their music software via Bluetooth to a Wiimote, so essentially you can mix and song using the movements of a Wiimote rather than using a traditional mixing deck.

lol, funny that it was developed by a trombonist. since i took the trombone as an example

i actually think ive heard something about this instrument before, i think it was on a program about the beach boys

i had forgotten it, but i agree it's more or less the same thing, it's an electro-theremin lol

so can nintendo plz include an area in wii music where u can play this instrument?
