This is probably the hardest Zelda game I've played. I beat Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, The Minish Cap, and Ocarina of Time (well, I didn't beat that one), and died only a handful of times throughout them. I die all the time in A Link to the Past.

I don't think I've played any Zelda game where one attack will take away three heart pieces. Common enemies will take away two heart pieces, and I am constantly trying to fill up my bottles with fairies and potions.

Also, A Link to the Past gives less help than every other Zelda game I've played. They don't exactly tell you where to go next. Kinda makes me wish I had a Navi with me :P

Anyway, what do you think?

THANKS FOR EVERYONE'S HELP!

Honestly, you just get better with time. Although, your map helps a great deal in ALttP. But again, you'll get better.

At least you're playing it. I've only played up until you first go to the Dark World and have never played it since.

ALttP is (in my opinion) the best Zelda game and it happens to be my favorite. It's also the hardest in my experience. About the only direction the game gives you is where the dungeons are located. After that it's all up to you. I can't tell you how many times I've beaten it and I still have trouble getting through the ice dungeon and the swamp dungeons. You'll get better with time and if you have too much trouble you can always look at a guide.

I ask my girlfriend what to do... I lent her the game and she beat the game a bunch of times and got all the hearts and weapons. I don't know how she thought it was easy.

I don't think I've played any Zelda game where one attack will take away three heart pieces. Common enemies will take away two heart pieces, and I am constantly trying to fill up my bottles with fairies and potions. It took probably 5 times just to beat the boss in the Dark Palace 1 alone, and I had to use two fairies for that one. I just arrived at the second Dark Temple.

Also, A Link to the Past gives less help than every other Zelda game I've played. They don't exactly tell you where to go next. Kinda makes me wish I had a Navi with me :P

It's not that hard, you just have to "learn" how to play the game, i mean, it has some "tricks" you know, but once you master the game you'll go more safe, i'm not saying more easy, but maybe you'll die less.

Yeah, ALTTP is pretty hard until you learn the tricks you can use to make combat easier.

For me though, it's not the combat that's hard, it's figuring out what to do next... :?

My problem- I have no idea what to do after completing the first palace and getting the first medallion... The guy who sent me there says there's an item in a cave on the eastern side of Lake Hyrule... But I have no idea how to get that item- there are blocks that prevent me from reaching it- and they can't be pushed or destroyed. And when I try to reach the other two palaces- both of them appear to be completely inaccessible! So I'm figuring I need the item in the cave- but can't get it... :(

Well in my case I got to that point, something else in my life came up and I never got back to it. I hate starting games in the middle because I may forget things, but I know getting to that point took a while to get to so I don't want to start over. I'm pretty much stuck unless I decide to start completely over. I'm having the same problem with MP3. :?

It is harder, and punishes you for being impatient. I remember filling up my bottles before trying anything mission-oriented. Are you actually stuck, or are you just dying to easily? If you're stuck, I'm sure we could all give you some spoiler-free hints...

Did you BEAT the 1st dark temple?

Did you fix the water system of the 2nd dark temple in the world of light?

No, I'm still going through it and I've used a guide multiple times and I still get stuck on things. I think the original is tougher though, since you can't get any fairy bottles or anything like that. Zelda 2 is probably harder still, because after three lives, it's game over, but I haven't played too much of this one.

As a kid I found the dungeons and bosses very hard but I got older and now it's a breeze.

Personally,I found the difficulty in aLttP to be pretty well-balanced,unlike Twilight Princess's "bosses don't inflict any damage at all" difficulty.Even later levels met the right balance of frustration and fun. Now,if you want a tricky Zelda game with some of the hardest puzzles in the franchise, try playing Oracle of Ages.

Lol, then how did you look around the 2nd temple :P. Well, what you wanna do now is go outside the 2nd dark world temple, use the mirror to the light world, enter the light world version of the temple, go to the 2nd room and pull one of the 2 sitches there to fix the water pumping system. Then enter the temple in the dark world to actually progress.

Stick with it; A Link to the Past was easily the last good Zelda game on consoles. Mainly because it was actually challenging at times, and didn't have an annoying sidekick telling you where to go and what to do.

It drains the small pond/lake right outside the temple.

More_Dakka

You don't need that item yet, yet alone...you're not able to get it. You have to beat the second dungeon first, which is far to the west (Green Pendant). If you ever get lost, just pull your map up, and try to reach the flashing items. If you can't reach it, you're not supposed to go there yet.

I believe you also need bombs for a secret room right next to where you're referring to.

I love this game. I never really found it hard except when it first came ou and I was just a young lad. It just takes time, especially if you're playing it the first time. Zelda II is by far the hardest of the series. I've still never beaten that game, even with a guide.

These kids are spoiled todays games are too easy for them. Zelda was the first game I ever beat before that it was pac man and centapede. Yeah I beat all the ninja gaidens but I think I'm getting old the xbox ones I had to drink a pot of coffee before I played.

I'm amazed at all the people saying ALttP was hard :o I've beaten 11 Zelda titles and I found Link to the Past one of the easier ones, matter of fact the only two easier than this one is WW and MC. I had hardly any trouble, stuck for a little bit on a couple areas, but nothing too ridiculous.

Well, MOST games today are easy, its a shame really but w/e, theres always the choice to go back and play the classics. NG II is actually the only NG Ive beaten. I might get II for the 360 and Dragon Sword for the DS.

Dispite my ability to beat it in one day, I STILL find the game to be a bit difficult at times. I still forget how to beat the Ice temple from time to time.

most of the people on this board probably haven't played older Zelda games. ALTHP came before all of them, and is much harder as well, so I'm not used to

I beat it when I was 8, I beat Ninja Gaiden II when I was 8 as well.

These kids are spoiled todays games are too easy for them. Zelda was the first game I ever beat before that it was pac man and centapede. Yeah I beat all the ninja gaidens but I think I'm getting old the xbox ones I had to drink a pot of coffee before I played.

Well, MOST games today are easy, its a shame really but w/e, theres always the choice to go back and play the classics. NG II is actually the only NG Ive beaten. I might get II for the 360 and Dragon Sword for the DS.

Ninja Gaiden on the DS isn't hard at all. Has very good difficulty imo (unless you like difficult games).

BTW everyone I just got the hookshot.

Your map should have blinking icons to show where the dungeons are.

Considering what I've heard about the first Zelda, A Link to the Past is a pretty amazing successor to it. I can see where some of the difficulty comes from as the original Zelda was the only game to base their improvements off of.
