The "new" animal crossing is the same as the gamecube version. We have waited years for a new exciting sequal to the orginal and what do we get....the same game. Im not buying it because its pathetic. Heck its the DS animal crossing on the Wii

Sorry, you're confused.
If you've bothered to read any previews at all, you'd see there are many improvements over the previous versions.
Try doing a bit of research before you decide to post your next topic.Â

There are a bit of differeces, but it is some what like the original (or so i have heard.)Â

^This.
Just because they are entries in the same series does not mean they are the same.Â

So you are still doing the same thing. Running erands, chopping trees, eating fruit and getting money.wiidog
Did you forget the name of the game or something?
It's called Animal Crossing.
If they changed the core gameplay, it wouldn't be called Animal Crossing.
You're looking for some other game. Particularly one NOT called Animal Crossing.
Did you criticize Super Mario Galaxy for being a Mario game as well?

my thoughts exactly
Even the graphics are the same.wiidog
I watched the entire marathon they had earlier today, and it is very well improved. The game looks a whole lot smoother than before, and the little addition to the water they added was a nice touch.
I'm for certain going to get this game after an experience in the past. Never did I expect to spend one whole year on Wild World after just finishing the GCN version a month earlier.(which I played for about a year as well)
I am very excited for Animal Crossing: City Folk, but that doesn't mean I am oblivious to the fact that the game carries nearly no innovation whatsoever. The fact is that even though it's the same game, the 'same game' is still fun. Tetris hasn't changed in twenty or so years, but that didn't stop me from downloading Tetris Party.
Of course, I generally don't like to promote re-releasing the same product, but come on, it's Animal Crossing.

Wow,you didn't see the marathon did you?
There are some differences.
Also, how come you say its the same as the Gamecube version then say its the DS version on Wii?
New Fish/bugs, new holidays, new furniture, new events, a city. Yep same game.Minishdriveby
All of which should be expected in the first place, and (at most) serve as a substitute for the the things from the previous Animal Crossing games that are taken out; none of the bolded elements are significant enough to use as a "this is proof the games aren't the same" argument.
I agree with VGobbsesser, there's nothing to justify City Folk as a true sequel. Unfortunately, it looks like just another notch in Nintendo's rehash program, arguably the worst instance of which was the DS Pokemon games that had barely been altered from the original Red and Blue versions.
Â
It doesn't look like this trend will end soon either. The only first-party titles announced for next year on Wii (that I am aware of) are updated ports of a selection of GameCube titles. Awesome!
No I have seen the game and read the previews. There is now a market place where you can get your hair done, miis, online with wii speak and im sure new events. None of these minor additions are enough to justify this game. The market place is just an expansion to the neighborhood. Wii speak is the best improvement but inst that good because if you dont know anyone to play with its useless. Miis arent important seeing as though every wii game just about has them. So you are still doing the same thing. Running erands, chopping trees, eating fruit and getting money. There isnt one new feature that just is truely amazing. Even the graphics are the same. If you cant see this then you're blind. Im sure its a good game because it is animal crossing but it is the samewiidog
so basically your not getting this game because you dont have any friends.Â

The Animal Crossing game is like the Harvest Moon games.
They are excellent for fans that like the formula but at the same time it wouldn't hurt if they tried something new in them.
Both of these franchises can be improved in a lot of ways ( no I'm not saying AC:CF hasn't improved over the GC game).

I have to agree, while I have my copy pre-ordered, I keep asking myself why, there are so many things done the same. Â Do I really want to collect everything for a third time, couldn't they at least overhaul the furniture sets for each game .... oh look the modern set ... again ... and it looks exactly the same. Â I hunted down every piece of modern furniture twice now, can't I just transfer my DS furniture to my Wii. Â But even as I complain I know it's Animal Crossing, it's fun, I just wish they changed something besides dropping the free VC games from the gamecube daysÂ
Besides the online mode, please tell me these many improvements?Sorry, you're confused.

Orrrrrrr.
You can do the research yourself.
The fact you mentioned online while not acknowledging brand new things leads me to believe you don't know much about the game.Â

You've made various claims that there are many improvements over the previous installments, but so far, you've avoided backing up your argument by merely stating "do your own research."

Gamespot made an effort to educate people on the game by providing a marathon.
Part of that marathon includes about 20 minutes of GS members talking to makers of the US version about all the improvements.
It's not my job to educate people on the game, especially when they don't even have to leave the site.
Ask all those people that agreed with me. Maybe they'll do your research for you.Â

No.You made a claim, and now I'm asking you to back it up.You have yet to do that, and stating "go look somewhere else" is simply avoiding the question. The burden of proof is on you for making a claim,so it is you who must bring up the evidence to back it up,so in one sense, yes,it is your job to "educate" me on this subject at this moment.Even though I've already read a lot of previews as it is.

Actually a lot of people thought there were going to be no real life holidays after being absent in WW. So that's not really expected. Item collecting is the main purpose of the game so it's pretty significant to have new items.

sameOk, I just watched the Marathon, and I am still disappointed with the game. I put tons of hours into the GameCube version, and a bunch into the DS version as well.
But this game just doesn't raise the bar at all. The online is the only innovative part of the game, and I can't even get online without buying the WiFi adapter where I am. And it isn't even that great.
And the main part of the game is exactly the same. Exactly. I want something fresh and new, not the same-old, same-old. I could think of tons of ideas for the game, but they really just took some good parts from the DS and Cube version, put them together, and call it completely new. They even left out some features from teh Cube version (like gyroids, among others).
If another AC game is made in the future, I really hope it is more innovative and captivating than this one.

Thats why i hate the F zero series! its the exact same game everytime execpt with new levels.
Also that is why i hate zelda!, its the exact same but with new dungeons,Â
same goes with Pikmin, Mario, star Fox, ETC.
Obviously the main part of the game will be exactly the same.but with a few minor changes. Thats what makes it a SEQUEL
They even left out some features from teh Cube version (like gyroids, among others).helium_flashwait... what!?
what gets to me on how hard people are on with nintedo games, no one ever says thats the halo games are alike but with minor changes, or how the god of war games are the same but with minor changeselbert_b_23
It's no secret, people hate on Nintendo for ridiculous reasons.Â
For what reason, I have no idea.
Microsoft could give Halo 3 new box art, change the name, release it tomorrow, and more people would complain about Animal Crossing not being completely different.

AC has the exact same town and gameplay, why not have the game in a different town or in a new setting?
Whats get to me now is that people will defend Nintendo for no apparent reason even when they should be criticised.JLF1
The towns randomly generate with different characters. They're not the same.
And there's no reason for Nintendo to be criticized here.
There's a difference between being a fanboy and defending someone till death, and realizing the differences and not expecting something tailored to exactly what I want.
I'm harder on Nintendo than a lot of people, but this isn't something to cry about.
Umm?, no they can't do that without a ton of backlash.
There is a huge difference between Halo and AC. A new main story for one.
The gameplay is the same but in a different world or setting, just like Zelda.

Yeah the game should have a city setting! Oh wait...

Just name the town different then you did last time, and there you go a whole new town

People that say "Oh my god, there are no changed from the original" are wrong.
There's a city, more town animals, better online with Wii Speak, new furniture, clothing, bugs, fish, fossils and sharper graphics.
What else does the game have to add? It's Animal Crossing; a collecting and socialising game. These new features are appropriate to it's genre.
