Any chance of Sega CD games on the Virtual Console?

I remember playing great games like Slam City and Night Trap and I'd love to play them again for nostalgia purposes. Will it ever happen?

It could happen but it's up to Nintendo and SEGA to work out a deal and develop an emulator for the Wii.

The emulation is difficult and the games are large. I don't think it's likely.

That's false. There's some Turbo-Grafx CD games on the Virtual Console.

For me it's not an issue of could it, but rather what games would I want for it? I can't think of any games other than Sonic I would want from Sega CD.

the size of the games would be too large unless you have a 32GB sd card and 99% of wii owners dont have an sd card higher than 4 GB. i think if they come on vc then it wont let you download them unless you have more than 2 Gb for it

A CD is a CD is a CD. The average CD fits 700 MB. While I understand the games come in different sizes. On average Turbo-Grafx CD games were larger because they had red-book audio.

Excellent point. Virtual Console games are no longer CD's and can break the rules for how much memory is needed to contain them by means of compression.

There's a big problem with naysaying Sega CD games can't be redone though. Vay for Sega CD game that has already been rereleased on the Iphone. While the game itself isn't noteworthy (Working Designs touched it once, for what it's worth) the fact is they added to it and it still ran fine.

Just don't come between a fan of Snatcher and the possibility of Sega CD being relavant. Or Shining Force fans for that matter.

This + Snatcher. The rest of the Sega CD's library I could care less about (Lunar's PSX revamp is a better choice).

I think Sewer Shark was the best game. It outsold alll the other Sewer simluators (or SewSims) as we used to call them.

Virtual Boy? No. Although Nintendo loves busting out useless periferals...this won't ever happen for a very small handfull of titles.

Saturn? Why not?

It depends on the game, but in general Saturn games are much larger. But you can put that idea to rest. The Wii isn't powerful enough to emulate the Saturn.

It's just not the Wii. For some reason, Saturn emulation has been abnormally cumbersome.

It's hard to tell one processor that it's actually two. Even harder when it's dedicated.

Sega got around all this when they made Sega Ages, but you know, based all western releases on the strength of Outrun 2006.

Leaving us to never enjoy this or that.

It's not too late for one last round of PS2 rehashes sega..

I'd like to see some sega cd games on vc like Frankenstein, Bram Stroker's Dracula, Don't need sonic CD (Already have two copies), and a Sequel of Eternal Champions 2: Challenge from the Darkside online for WiiWare (Oh how I dream of the day I get to play a new Eternal Champions online, I'd destroy you all with Shadow).

But I'd much rather see Sega 32X gameson the VC or sequels on WiiWare. I'd love to play through Tempo 2 and Chaotix 2.

Is that a joke? I mean it's gotta be a joke, right? Slam City and Night Trap are some of the worst games ever made. SegaCD itself is a joke, though I'd like to see a remake of Snatcher.

Double Switch was a lot better than Night Trap, the two probably being the only two games of their genre, but still nothing special.

You already can play Sonic CD on your Wii as part of the Sonic Gems Collection Gamecube game. It also has Sonic R, Sonic The Fighters (!) and assorted Game Gear Sonics.

N64 games are larger than Sega CD games, and about the same as Saturn games.

It really shouldn't be a problem.

the genesis was like the other side of the tracks though. you see, back in the day devs werent completely useless, and they would actually make 2 games when they made multi-plats. look at "The adventures of batman and robin" they are two totally different games! The master system was an amazing piece of work too. I skipped over the saturn, it wasnt really... lived, and i never got a dreamcast, but i've played it and loved it, sega may not have been the best business wise, but they knew how to make a home system

the decent dreamcast games all showed up on the gamecube, so it's not like it's needed :P i like the newer sega more, they're kind to nintendo and publish anything that looks interesting :P

oh ye of little sega knowledge... while the gamecube did get some good dreamcast games, they barely scratched the surface. and yea, the new sega is nicer to nintendo and publish anything (conduit), they also kinda suck at making games. take for example just about every sonic game released after SA2B that wasnt on the GBA or DS. and we have yet to get another Phantasy Star Online on a home console.

[QUOTE="garrett_duffman"][QUOTE="BrunoBRS"][QUOTE="garrett_duffman"] the genesis was like the other side of the tracks though. you see, back in the day devs werent completely useless, and they would actually make 2 games when they made multi-plats. look at "The adventures of batman and robin" they are two totally different games! The master system was an amazing piece of work too. I skipped over the saturn, it wasnt really... lived, and i never got a dreamcast, but i've played it and loved it, sega may not have been the best business wise, but they knew how to make a home system

the decent dreamcast games all showed up on the gamecube, so it's not like it's needed :P i like the newer sega more, they're kind to nintendo and publish anything that looks interesting :P

oh ye of little sega knowledge... while the gamecube did get some good dreamcast games, they barely scratched the surface. and yea, the new sega is nicer to nintendo and publish anything (conduit), they also kinda suck at making games. take for example just about every sonic game released after SA2B that wasnt on the GBA or DS. and we have yet to get another Phantasy Star Online on a home console.

i have a DS. i can play phantasy star zero. best part? free of charge :P besides, they'll face a big competition on the "home console MMO" market, with final fantasy XIV in a few years and the monster hunter series getting more and more popular each day.
