Anyone else think Pikmin 3 will be very different from 1 and 2?

Don't know how many Pikmin fans there are out there, but I was thinking about Pikmin 3 for a bit and was simply wondering, since it's been so so long since Pikmin 2, are they going to radically change the Pikmin formula with 3?

It's been almost 5 years since Pikmin 2 came out, that's a long gap between 2 installments in a franchise. Not only that, but they have already done a lot of new things in the other Pikmin games that they can't really do in 3. For one thing, they can't simply add a 3rd pilot and give it 3 player mode like in Pikmin 2, I mean it would be cool, but not really as good as having 2 player for the first time in Pikmin 2. Also, they already had Wii controls in the remakes of 1 and 2, and they can't just add more colors, as having a limit of 100 will only make the game complex and confusing instead of better with so many colors.

Basically, I don't expect Nintendo to just add a 3 player mode, Wii controls, and more colors, like in 2, as it wouldn't really be as new and interesting as 2, and since it's been so long since 2, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo really changed the series. I expect Nintendo to remove Purple and White Pikmin and replace them with new colors, or perhaps give you the ability to combine Pikmin to make new colors, or maybe add say hot areas you can only take red Pikmin or an area where it rains and you can only take blue Pikmin. They could also use the Wii remote in many ways like Mario Galaxy and say have different ways of using Pikmin by swinging it or something.

I think Pikmin 3 will add lots of new stuff to the formula since it's been so long and it will be the first Pikmin game built from the ground up for Wii, and because of this I couldn't be more excited for it, what are other Pikmin fans' thuoghts on this?

Some sort of new way to manage the Pikimin will be implemented I think. And maybe even the odd chance to control an individual Pikmin for a short time... Maybe Olimar will have some transport, or power-ups that assist his efficiency. Who knows though - it's up to them as to which direction it could take. I hope it gets even stranger.

Whatever Pikmin 3 eventally becomes is fine with me. I just really want another installment in the franchise. Pikmin 1 and 2 were some of my favorite games for the Gamecube. I hope they can make the 3rd one just as brilliant.

Hm... I like your idea or fusing Pikmin together. But that probably won't happen.

I don't expect them to change the actual game formula much, just expect new stuff. AND co-op multiplayer in the main adventure! Please, Nintendo! (and it better have online too... GOOD online)

Well, I do think they'll add online to the battle mode. They might also give you the option of completing it in ** days instead of no limit for a challenge. Also, I think all of the Pikmin will return, but they'll add more. You might have the option of choosing which color of Pikmin you want in your army. Like a Poke'mon game, you might have three types of Pikmin to choose from, and whichever you select will change the course of the story and stratgegy of how you play. IE selecting a green pikmin will give you the power of growing pellet plants, putting up a protective ivy wall to surround your army, and the ability to strangle your foes with vines. There could be a meter to to determine when you can use one of these special moves, like a magic meter in Zelda. The color hybrid idea is also a viable possiblity. You could combine blue and yellow to create a Pikmin unharmed by water and electricity. This would lower the attack power of your pikmin though, and make it extremely weak(1 hit death)to fire(blue+yellow=green->plant).

As for the way you play the game, I honestly hope they don't change the formula too much. Pikmin should still involve the strategy of building an army, leading your troops to fight of enemies, and collecting things. I do expect this however: the next Pikmin will be modernized. The last time we saw the plannet of the Pikmin, we collected a ton of valuable treasure from it. This infoprobably got back to hocotate(olimar's planet), and they immediately sent loads of explorers and colonizers to the planet. In Pikmin 3, you might be having your Pikmin jump from skyscraper to skyscraper and battle cars and tanks. I still expect there to be monsters like the Bulborb and Snagret, but you might battle machines as well. Imagine a takeover of the Pikmin's planet, and most creatures are wiped off the face of the map to make room for civilization. As Olimar or another character, you might lead the last groups of Pikmin and other creatures(maybe even Bulborbs) against the colonists to help get the Pikmin's planet back. Just an idea.:)

No, i expect Pikmin 3 to be, more or less, the same as Pikmin 2. Same gameplay except with pointer controls, same graphics, same story ( collect parts for your ship ). Nintendo is just lazy that way.

In Pikmin 2, you collect treasures, not parts...

And Nintendo was never lazy. They're just lazy when it comes to online gaming.

lol you haven't even played Pikmin have you? Anyway TC 5 years is not that long of a time in the video game world. I expect they will stick with the formula and just refine some troublesome elements and implement new features that the game could support because of things like IR and M+. And Nintendo isn't lazy about online gaming, they simply are the last ones dedicated to actually having people play games in the same room. And I do expect a nice visual upgrade, notice the huge difference between Brawl and Melee, Galaxy and Sunshine, and there will likely be a big difference between Twilight Princess and the next Zelda., even Mario Kart looks better than Double Dash. It wont be radically new but there will be obvious upgrades and some new elements.

I think it'll offer more and different environments, along with pointing controls. But I'm not sure about the collecting part, it was a major part of Pikmin 1 and 2 but they have to (should) come up with a new story and the collecting will be hard to fit in. I don't care if collecting will stay in Pikmin 3 as long as it replaces it with something fresh and it's almost impossible to tell so we just have to sit and wait for Nintendo to say something already.

I am a Pikmin fan as you might be able to deduce. Pikmin 2 is my favourite game of all time and, quite frankly, I would be quite happy with more of the same.

I think that a nice addition would involve a couple new Hocotate Frieght employees that each have their own abilities. You can only have two employees out on the field at a time so choosing your leader becomes as important as choosing your Pikmin troops. I'd rather this than adding new colours. I think 5 different Pikmin types are enough, but it would be alright if they added new uses for the already existing Pikmin.

These minor tweaks is all the series would need in my eyes. It's still very young.

I could just imagine the ideas of combining pikmin. Bashing them together on their head, what fun! :D

I expect, they will take out the purple and white Pikmin, add two new colors, give the yellow Pikmin wings...Give thee ability to accesorize you Pikmin! (jk)

Maybe Nintendo will finally add Online CO-OP. I hope for a more Open World in the Next Pikmin. Instead of just going to different levels in your ship, you have one open place, similar to Zelda, but not Zelda. And you just have checkpoints to where you can call your ship. I want to see something different done with the Pikmin instead of just collecting items. IDK what, but something. I kind of think they may change the Protagonist. No longet Olimar.

I think it will be about how these new aliens came to the Pikmin planet and our killing it. So Olimar returns to help save the Pikmin, at least I hope it is that.

They should also add a teleporting Pikmin and a wall climbing Pikmin. One should be pink and the other green

i dont think it will need to. the only motion you would have to use in the game is pointing to help throw and hopefully s shacking the remote to pluck pikmin. neither will need motion plus

You should be able to create a leader Pikmin, which is immune to all hazards(like Pikmin 2's bulbmin, which I hope they bring back, as it's my favorite Pikmin 2 creature), has more attack power, has 3 special abilities, and can give a boost to all Pikmin in it's group.
