For those of you that don't already know, Ocarina of Time is being released on the VC tomorow. This is the only game on Gamespot (to my knowledge) that has achieved a perfect 10.0 rating.
Now I know that Gamespot's rating don't in any way affect (or sometimes reflect *coughcoughtwilightprincesscough*) the  quality of a game, but since Gamespot has unintelligently decided to rerate timeless forbidden>

TP deserved its score. Do you even know how they rate VC games? they don't rate them based on how great they were back in the day... they rate them based on how they stand up to todays standards.

Yea.  This game should get like an 8.5 max due to today's standards.

Well I dont think time has affected this game in the least. I think that it really holds up well to time, but I dont know how they would be able to give it a 10 again because of the fact that its over 9 years old right now. And even though time has not really killed this game or really even hurt it, it still 7 years of improving from other games thats prolly not going to make this game look as perfect anymore.

OOT, Soul Caliber, Tony Hawk Pro 3, and Chrono Cross are the only games to ever get a perfect, but I highly doubt that the VC review will get any higher than a 9

i can accept it, but i think that they should rate it at least somewhat differently..i dont think its fair to rate it based on other games that have come since then, the question should be, can i pick up this game and have a good time? they are cheap games and thats how they are being used..they arent the bread and butter of most peoples gaming libraries

There's a great many that refuse to accept ANY form of reality. If you're worried that much about what score OoT will get, then buddy I envy you. I wish that topped my list of worries. But IMO, if Gamespot wants to give Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 a 10.0 (as good a game as it was), then the whole system doesn't mean a damned thing to begin with and should be suitably ignored.

ya i wasn't saying it would, i just meant to say it's dumb to go back and rate games again, this isn't even a re-release, it's just a port. my analogy that got cut off was it's like looking at a picture of your high school sweetheart when you're 50 and going "Eeeew, she's way to young for me"

They should not be rating VC games, at least not with their current scale. A simple yes or no would do, no need for a number. At the very least they should leave a classic game like OoT alone. It is possibly the best game of all time and some of the gamespot staff must agree because it got a 10 and got on their greatest games of all time. They should just say whether or not it merits a buy(wonder if they would acually say not to get it) but they did not leave LoZ LTTP or Mario 64 alone so it might get rated. I think it should not get a rating period and I am concerning with OoT getting trashed. I'm sure if they re-rated Halo there would be an uprising in the forums, why would pissing of the Zelda fans be any different.

It doesn't really matter, but it will be disappointing if GS gives it less than a 9. They shouldn't even be rated at all by score. It's obvious that these games will never get a decent score in the graphics category so it takes a hit right there. As TheGreenToad mentioned above me, a simple thumbs up or down, something along those lines would be better and more fair.

twilight princess got the score it deserved. in fact, im suprised it didnt get lower now that ive played through the whole game.

but since Gamespot has unintelligently decided to rerate timeless forbiddenSonicTheMonkey

theyre only rerating games to show how well theyve held up throught the times.

anyway to answer the main topic question, no, im not worried about gs "tarnishing" OoT.

OoT was no doubt a great game, but in my opinion it did'nt deserve a 10 then and it certainly won't now.  No game is 100% perfect.

Okami was an amazing game, but it most cases, Zelda fans didn't buy into because some of them didn't even have a PS2, because, well, Sony is evil.  And the ones that did, refused to try it just because it tried to compare to Zelda, and few would admit that it gave the Zelda series a run for it's money.  There were the few Zelda fans that did try it, and found a great game.  I immensly enjoyed Okami, as I enjoyed OoT.  I personally liked OoT better in it's time than I liked Okami in it's time, but OoT was ground-breaking when it came out.  Anyway, back on to the topic, I wouldn't be so worried about it.  No one should really care what Gamespot thinks if you loved the game that much.  And yes, there is the thought of them giving it a low score, under 9.0, there is a distinct possibilty. But what does that really matter...anyone who is going to skip over OoT because of a low score doesn't know much of video games.  Don't read into Gamespot's reviews too much...they don't mean much to me due to it being a port that's many years old.  Something we all have to keep in mind that if any of the games that got pefect 10's were released now...they certainly wouldn't get them again.

I'm not worried about it. I think that OoT should get something in the high 8's if they rate the game on how it's standerds are today. Don't get me wrong I love the game, but for the day and age it should get something around the 8's. Just my opinion folks.

Soul Calibur (Dreamcast), OoT (N64), ChronoCross (it may have been trigger) (PS), Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (PS2)

Are all the games that scored a perfect 10 on Gamespot.

Tony Hawk's should NOT be up there.

what the hell does it matter?

one source? i say, screw GS. they can give the VC's OoT a 2 and it'll only show their stupidity... [as goes with any other site]

thats all that really matters as of right now...

yes, if they had to rate by todays standards then: Midi music would get 7 or lower, graphics that are in bits should be 3 and lower, etc.

Tarnish 'Ocarina of Time? Am I the only one who thinks that sounds silly?

Anyhow, regardless of that - I will be surprised if this game scores anything above 8.7-8.9 range.

Well to say on topic, everyone some how seems to be talking about TPs score and cant say on topic, coughshirlytemplecough, yes I do agree with you, but it will only be fanboys that tarnish it, someone will say "well OoT is a 10/10 and then someone will say no, gs gave it a 8 its not good or something like that.

[QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"][QUOTE="XBSHX"]TP deserved its score. Do you even know how they rate VC games? they don't rate them based on how great they were back in the day... they rate them based on how they stand up to todays standards.

err...I don't know if you can realize this seeing as your probablly being blinded by nostalgia.......but TP is technically the better game.

Thats the only reason im happy about this review, because if it scores worse than TP, hopefully when it comes to raw games people will see that TP is better, but your right, alot of people are blinded by nostalgia and say OoT is better.

nostalgia blinds 99% of the gamers. FF VII will allways be the best FF game ever, OoT will always be the best 3D Zelda ever, and so on.

well idk it gave it a 10 the first time, why wouldnt it get it again?burfeindt21

... One reason: Wii Virtual Console games haven't received as high of ratings as their counterparts have already.  On GameSpot, Super Mario 64 on Nintendo 64 got a 9.4/10 while the Wii port got an 8.0/10.  I'm guessing Ocarina of Time probably will have 9.0/10 or lower.

Which, in my opinion, is ridiculous. Unless they go strictly off game play, than the reviews are pointless.

It is my understanding that the N64 games are updated to play in EDTV (the 480i thing) but lose rumble functionality.  Am I the only person who remembers that after you unlock the rumble pack you have to use it to find the hidden holes for the sidequests?  If rumble pack support goes away entirely, it NEEDS to be replaced by a similar mechanic (some way to know where every hole is).  This is not a joke, as it will actually RUIN the experience.  The same with fishing, because it's needed for a piece of heart (or two?).  No rumble=bad fishing=broken game.  This could actually get anywhere from a 9.0 to a 5.0 depending on how many other things relied on rumble.
No joke, everyone who buys the game tomorrow could be crying for a patch to resume the Jigglin.

Actually, the rumble feature was used as this in OoT.
You get a key item, that was called the Stone of Agony, and if you had the rumble pack (sold separately) you could feel a little rumble when you were close to secret holes. Its similar to the feature in FF VIII were you could raise a Chocobo if you had an add on that know I dont remember the name though.
