Same here after looking at some gameplay videos. Yeah from the battle system to customizing your character,its pretty much everything i wanted in a RPG since Final Fantasy Echoes of Time
I will definitely be picking this up. It looks awesome. I have not played a Dragon Quest game since it was called Dragon Warrior back on the NES. I played the first three releases back then and IX looks like the perfect jumping back on point.
I'm really interested in this game even though I haven't played any of the previous ones. If it's even remotely as awesome as FF9 (my first one) I'm sure I'll be hooked. :P
I will be buying it. I never played a Dragon Quest game until I bought DQ IV for the DS. I am just about to start the last episode and have been pleasently surprised by how addicted I got to it. IX looks even better and has really grabbed my attention and will definitely be a purchase for me.

FF9 is probably the only 3D FF game that resembles Dragon Quest games. But yeap, getting this day one.
I plan to get it on release day. The character customization caught my eye first, but then I watched some gameplay videos and found out about the unique multiplayer aspect saw all the cool types of enemies(im a sucker for sick looking creature design), then decided ill give it a try even though im not a huge fan of turn based rpgs .
No as much as I like RPGs, Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest and what not I can never seem to finish a Dragon Warrior or Dragon Quest game because of the ridiculous amount of level grinding required. I have DW VII, DQ VIII, DWM2, & DQMJ and haven't finished any of them because I dislike grinding, so I don't want to waste money on a game that I want to enjoy but is hindered by this insistent grinding.
I will most likely not, and I love old school JRPG's like the Dragon Quest and FF series. The whole focus on multiplayer is kind of strange for Dragon Quest and it doesn't look like there will be room for a great story and interesting characters because of it.

what? its not focused on multiplayer. when you play multiplayer on this game, all you re doing is playing the story mode with real people. thats it you can play the story mode solo and create a party of 4 without having to play multiplayer

I'm considering it, I have enjoyed the other DS titles in the series so i'll probably get it at some point, though it's not often I buy a DS game on the days it launches.
Edit: Well I got it and I'm loving it so far but I'm only at Stornway. I'm impressed that this kind of game is able to be on the DS at all. I'm still trying to figure the mutiplayer party thing, but I just hope it has Wi-fi.
its a great game so far and amazing on how they put in a full console game like this onto the ds with great 3rd person graphics without using the bad chibi characters
