Some interesting news for those who fear that some of the jewels in the N64 crown may never get released on the VC. Our friends at RareWare have now stated "it's ultimately Nintendo's decision what gets released" on their own official website. It would appear from this statement that Nintendo does indeed own the publishing rights to the Rare games published on the Nintendo 64 so we might eventually start to see Banjo and gang on the VC. In direct response to a question about Banjo Kazooie coming to the VC the reply was given "Banjo team: Maybe, but not up to us". In addition to this in an example of l33t spk from people who really should know better Rare said: "Beyond the DKC games we don't have anything in the pipeline at the moment, but that doesn't mean it won't happen in future. OMG CORPERATE ANSER#!1". Perhaps for the first time we now have a glimmer of hope that the Banjo games and ultimately maybe all the classic Rare games may one day be available for download in the Wii Shop. Let's hope

yeah, I said this long before the release of the wii and people didn't beleive me

nintendo own publishing rights, that gives them the control over the games in question, for example where they are released, and what format
only problem is that they cannot change the code within the ROM's, rare would have to allow them to do that

Like the sound of that. Banjo Kazooie was one of the best games for the N64.

I suppose it could happen, but I don't know if it will. The next game is coming out on XBOX 360 and releasing Banjo-Kazooie (and hopefully Tooie) may come across to Nintendo as them inadvertably advertising for Microsoft. I think Conker's Bad Fur Day is more likely.

Woo! The N64's VC lineup wouldn't be half as good without Rare titles.

It would be great if Banjo hit the VC. I never got a chance to play it on the N64 so being able to play it on the Wii would same me a purchase of another console.

If I recall, Nintendo tried to put away Conker's Bad Fur Day like a bad memory (look it up on Wikipedia). They refused to cover it in Nintendo Power. And besides, Conker is already on Xbox360, so it would also be sort of advertising Microsoft. Personally, I think the Banjo-Kazooie games are more likely, but still not very.

seeing as the only conker game on an xbox is simply a remake of the original conkers bad fur day with improved graphics and added multiplayer, i doubt that someone would buy the vc game for 10 bucks and pay an extra 30(?) dollars just to get to play through it again with better graphics

Did anyone even read where this info came from?

In the Q&A they're asked if Rare titles can come to the Virtual Console and they say "it's not up to us"

When asked again they said that Nintendo makes all final decisons on what goes on the Virtual Console. That means nothing about them controlling it it means they have final say what's on their network.

Since this is one of the biggest things Rare has going for them of course they're going to string people along.

Sounds brilliant but my faith in Nintendo's VC is slowly dieing. We have only 6 or 7 games for the N64. Nintendo need to start releasing N64 games like they release NES and SNES games. If not more.

Nintendo didn't Publish Conker's Bad Fur Day because they didn't want to they would of it was like Conker's Pocket Tales which has the Conker that was like the Conker in Diddy Kong Racing.

Oh god, that would be awesome. Even though I more than likely wouldn't buy it, as I still have the good-as-new cartridge, along with Tooie, but it'd still be pretty cool. And that would mean I'd get to play the Rare N64 games I never have played before, like Perfect Dark (zomg), and Jet Force Gemini. :D

"it's ultimately Nintendo's decision what gets released"

Sonick54

Read: We may set the price, but it's up to Nintendo to decide whether or not to pay the money.

There's no doubt in my mind that Rare (or M$ for that matter) has their price. It all depends, however, upon one's willingness to pay said price. Seems Nintendo is hesitant to pay what Rare wants for these games to hit VC, and Rare wants to put all blame back on them. I guess only time will tell if these guys can strike any deal.
