Hi, I'm going to be getting a cooling fan for the Wii. I'm having a hard time choosing between these two:

Intec Cooling Station - $20 CAD
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10086694&catid=24356

Asid Tech Wii Charging Stand - $15 CAD on sale
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10086736&catid=24356

PS. The reason I'm looking to buy one is that when the Wii is in standby mode, it gets a little hot, and I've heard that Wiis can overheat, so that's reason enough for me to buy a fan.

The Wii doesn't have a problem with overheating.

You're wasting your money and only helping other companies use scare tactics on the public.

it does heat up quite quickly, but the fan is really unnecessary since there are 2 built in and the warmness really doesn't affect it. thats at least $15 gone to waste if you get one of those.

My friend has had his on standby permanently since he got it last christmas and it's hardly hot at all so there's no need to waste money on a fan at all really

Actually, there are some people that have had their Wiis break on them because of overheating on the GPU. Of course it is rare, but never the less, if it's still under warranty it should be okay if something happens. Once out of warranty, people should keep a look out for any problems that may arise from possible over heating.

TC, I have one (just can't remember the brand, sorry), but I found it to be much too noisy, so I just don't the Wii Connect. I turn it off till I see the red light.

It's a defective heatsink that caused those issues on the gpu. Wouldn't matter if the fan was blowing or not. The fan doesn't protect the system for overheating that is the job of the heatsink. Fans just assist the heatsink.

Those cooling fans that you attach to the wii usb ports don't get them. The intec brand of cooling stands has been known to actually overheat the console due to it guess what blocking the fan by thrusting air in there. Xbox 360 cooling fans have been known to damage the system for example.

This is the second time today that I have been corrected in these forums. Boy-oh0boy, today is just not my day. Here I am thinking I know something, and blam!!!, turns out my head is not on straight today.

Thank you for clarifying about the GPU heatsink.
