The main problem with the DSi at the moment is that it doesn't have much going for it. The people who are going to buy it for the cameras and music have already bought it. The people who thought Nintendo would be quicker starting DSiWare up well have bought it (me). The guys who want to always be at the cutting edge have already bought it. A vast majority of people, who still play on their DS', PSPs, or alternative have not been impressed by the motives of the above, and want something more from the DSi. There are three ways I could see this heading:
Focus on DSiWare: Creating lots of good games exclusively for download, and hopefully investing in a Virtual Console idea
Focus on functionality: More photo editing, myspace and Facebook compatibility, chat rooms, flash player, etc
Focus on DSi cartridges: Gradually removing normal DS cartridges, effectively forcing DS owners to upgrade
Though I'd appreciate the second two, I think I'd like the first most, especially the idea of a Virtual Console.
Hell, I think EVERYONE wants a Virtual Console. Chances are we'll get one, almost every single website featuring the DSi has complained about the lack of VC, and Nintendo isn't blind. However, Nintendo has made its announcements for E3, and for the DSi there was Moving Memo, and Mario vs Donkey Kong. I feel frustrated, Nintendo seems to have abandoned their new product, before it's truly begun its life. I say that if we don't get something good for DSi soon, we should try and persuade Nintendo to give it to us. Homebrew looks more and more appealing every day the DSi stagnates. I think we should start a massive internet petition to send to Nintendo, showing our plea.
