The main problem with the DSi at the moment is that it doesn't have much going for it. The people who are going to buy it for the cameras and music have already bought it. The people who thought Nintendo would be quicker starting DSiWare up well have bought it (me). The guys who want to always be at the cutting edge have already bought it. A vast majority of people, who still play on their DS', PSPs, or alternative have not been impressed by the motives of the above, and want something more from the DSi. There are three ways I could see this heading:

Focus on DSiWare: Creating lots of good games exclusively for download, and hopefully investing in a Virtual Console idea

Focus on functionality: More photo editing, myspace and Facebook compatibility, chat rooms, flash player, etc

Focus on DSi cartridges: Gradually removing normal DS cartridges, effectively forcing DS owners to upgrade

Though I'd appreciate the second two, I think I'd like the first most, especially the idea of a Virtual Console.

Hell, I think EVERYONE wants a Virtual Console. Chances are we'll get one, almost every single website featuring the DSi has complained about the lack of VC, and Nintendo isn't blind. However, Nintendo has made its announcements for E3, and for the DSi there was Moving Memo, and Mario vs Donkey Kong. I feel frustrated, Nintendo seems to have abandoned their new product, before it's truly begun its life. I say that if we don't get something good for DSi soon, we should try and persuade Nintendo to give it to us. Homebrew looks more and more appealing every day the DSi stagnates. I think we should start a massive internet petition to send to Nintendo, showing our plea.

Thoughts?

Have you any idea what you're talking about? DSi's doing fine.

-There's good stuff coming for it- there's good stuff already available.

-Facebook for DSi was announced at E3.

-Flashplayer is unnecessary and will not come.

-At the moment, the DSi is incapable of running non DS/DSi software due to it's new chipset.

-Nintendo hasn't abandoned their new product, they just started with it. I takes time to make good games ya know.

The DSi's life just started andit's first game hasn't even been announced yet. Why are you complaining?

.

EDIT:

"The main problem with the DSi at the moment is that it doesn't have much going for it. The people who are going to buy it for the cameras and music have already bought it. You're joking, right?

The DSi has been out for months in Japan. Looking over the DSiWare content, everything seems to be puzzle games, half-baked alternatives to full games, ports of phone and iPhone games, and applications like maps. Mario vs Donkey Kong will be the first full non-puzzle game designed for the DSi exclusively. Are there currently DSiWare titles that you'd buy a DSi for?

Hopefully the FaceBook will be a start. However, it's nearly as quick to just load photos onto your computer (especially in bulk), and then you can edit your profile, on the computer. The DSi can only load photos, not change around whole pages.

"there's good stuff already available" PicoPict and Code. Anything else? "Nintendo hasn't abandoned their new product, they just started with it. I takes time to make good games ya know." Wouldn't it sell better if it had better launch titles? Kinda like the Wii and DS. "The DSi's life just started andit's first game hasn't even been announced yet" Shouldn't some good games be announced when the system first appears? Also, what other demographics are going to invest in the DSi now? Besides the people still saving, and those who just didn't get around to buying it earlier. I KNOW Nintendo can and will do good things with the DSi. I just hope they start soon.

People are buying it. It's selling literally twice as fast as the DS Lite. They'll get more exclusive content soon, they're just not in any hurry.

The question isn't whether people are buying it, the question is why should people buy it today?

Sure there have been one or two puzzle game that's been good but no AAA stuff that you can't play on your DSL anyway. Pictobits and Code are fun games but why buy a DSi to play them when you get just as easily buy any of the 100 other puzzle games you can play on your DSL already? Some of them much better.

The DSi is a great piece of hardware and if you plan in buying your first DS you should get a DSi but I see no reason as to why I a DSL owner should go out and buy one today.

It's just like you say, "They're just not in a hurry", but they should be. When you launch a new handheld you should give the people that buys it a reason to buy it. Potential can just go that far.

As today there is no real reason a DSL owner should buy a DSi, in six months there might but not until then will I buy one.

Power-Pants

Mario VS Donkey Kong is a puzzle game

Also it's not being designed for the DSi exclusively rather the DSi is the only way to get the game because it has to be a download, if it was a retail cart any DS could run it perfectly

Are you sure you know about this hardware? It's the same exact thing as every other DS with cameras and media functions and a connection to an online store.

You lost me there Jasonguy, the DS is the same hardware yes (arm procs), but it's also more powerful hardware with more memory as well. Not sure if you were implying it wasn't or not but your comment confused me on this point.

I agree with the idea of Virtual console, that would be a big draw (if the interest on GS is any indication).

The DSi-exclusive games are real (pretty sure about that), we just haven't seen one yet. There are DSi-enhanced games in development...

I can see myspace/facebook functionality as a potential draw, more photo editing, not so much...

Yeah, i must admit, they are starting out slow with the DSi, but considering it is Nintendo we're talking about here, it'll charge up and burst out the door with pwnage!!!!!

By The Way, will people stop nagging about the DSi!!!!!! It's a wonderful system that puts "simple convenience" and "appeal to many" first and with all the content on the way, how do you think it has nothing going for it? You know what they say "A man can't get anywhere when he's straddling the fence" The DSi leaped over that fence sure as heck!

P.S Virtual console would be awesome!

If they announce a VC you can pretty much guess that he sales will receive an huge boost.

I guess they ninty is having problems to set up a VC or they are waiting for a certain ocasion to do it.

You know that Nintendo's still supporting the DS Lite, right? I don't think Ninty would kill their own system. They'll probably wait for DS Lite sales to die down a little more before focusing more on the DSi. Ninty stated that they'll let the consumers decide the future of the two systems, so I doubt they'll do much to interfere with the consumer's decisions. No matter which system they choose, all the money's going to Nintendo anyway. If there's a serious error in Nintendo's marketing strategy that the likes of you could pick out, they'd have been out of buisnessa long time ago.

Ok if the flow of DSi content was like this a year from now I would be worred...but it's not...so sit back and relax it's all come in due time. If you have been keeping up with Nintendo at E3 you will notice that they have alot of stuff coming to the DSi in the summer, good things take time.
